Collared lion snared in Zimbabwe
Absolute silence from the antis about the collared lion snared and cut up for traditional medicine at Victoria Falls. A second adult male was found still alive in a snare. If he had been shot legally we would never hear the end of it!

You are 100% correct, doesn’t fit their narrative.

Poachers slaughter and mutilate collared lion

A collared lion has been found poached in Victoria Falls, its flesh stripped and its head and claws missing, in what authorities describe as a disturbing case of targeted wildlife crime.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) confirmed the grim discovery, saying the lion was being tracked by the Vic Falls Wildlife Trust when its signal went static. Rangers followed the device’s location and uncovered the remains, raising fears of escalating poaching in the region.

Authorities suspect the lion was killed for its body parts, which are highly valued in illegal wildlife markets.

“We are worried about increased cases of lion poaching, and we will continue to work with the police and other conservation partners to curb this challenge,” ZimParks said in a statement.

During the search, rangers also found a second lion—an adult male—trapped in a snare but still alive.

“With the assistance of veterinary doctors, the second lion was successfully treated and rescued from the snare,” the agency added.

ZimParks has reported the incident to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), and investigations are underway to track down the poachers.

Meanwhile, anti-poaching units in Victoria Falls and rangers in the Zambezi region have intensified patrols to sweep for snares and protect vulnerable wildlife.

“Our teams are actively conducting snare-sweeping patrols within the surrounding areas to protect wildlife,” officials confirmed.

Conservationists say the brutal killing underscores the growing threat to Zimbabwe’s lion population, calling for stronger measures to protect the country’s iconic predators.

US$1,000 Reward For Information On Lioness Killing In Victoria Falls

March 9, 2025 6:19 AM

Source: US$1,000 Reward For Information On Lioness Killing In Victoria Falls

A reward of US$1,000 has been offered for anyone who provides credible information leading to the arrest of poachers involved in the killing and dismemberment of a lioness in Victoria Falls.

According to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks), a team from the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust was monitoring a collared lion when they came across a distressing scene. The remains of the lioness were found, with its flesh removed and its claws and head missing.

Another lion, an adult male, was discovered alive but trapped in a snare. The lion was successfully rescued and treated by veterinary doctors.

ZimParks, working with IMPI Zambezi Horse Safaris Antipoaching, Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, and the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit (VFAPU), has appealed to anyone with credible information to assist in apprehending the poachers. Those with details can reach out via +263 774 008520 or +263 717 225436. Part of the statement reads:

On the morning of March 5th, a routine patrol led to the discovery of an adult male lion caught in a freshly set wire snare near the golf course.

Fortunately, he was found alive and was quickly attended to by National Parks and the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust. He was successfully darted, the snare removed and is expected to make a full recovery.

Tragically, at the same scene, the remains of a lioness were found, believed to be one of the Hippo Creek females.

Evidence suggests she was killed by a snare, but her body had been dismembered, with her legs, head, and large portions of meat removed.

In light of this, we are offering a $1000 reward for credible information that leads to the arrest of these criminals.

Wow, I didn’t need to read this news.

I’ll be visiting the people from Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust in May, on behalf of the Mzuri Wildlife Foundation. Mzuri has been funding the Vic Falls Wildlife Trust for 8 years and part of our funding has been used to collar these lions. I’ll be visiting local schools they work with, track some of the other lions and Black Rhinos they have collared and also visit Bhejane Trust to see the work they’re doing near Robins Camp.

Once done around Vic Falls and Robins Camp/Matetsi, we are heading to Cawston to discuss funding an anti-poaching game ranger training program that Peter Johnstone & Vernon Booth are developing there.

Then, after my work on behalf of Mzuri…. Heading to Hammond to hunt buffalo with Alan Vincent!

Hunting with Brent Hein in Matetsi 3, 2011, we came across a beautiful lion with a snare around his neck. He was alive but not in great shape. You could see that the snare had ripped his flesh up badly, even through his mane.

We drove to the Parks office to ask permission to track the lion down & put it out of it's misery. The lady in charge said "There is no mercy killing in the Matetsi. It is the Botswana people doing the poaching." And that was the end of that.

When we saw him, he was laying right alongside the main road. Absolulte 'accident waiting to happen' if someone came walking or biking past!

Back in 2013, I was hunting with CMS for elephant bull. Blake, his trackers, the game scout, and I came across a dead lioness with a snare around her neck. It was evident the cat died a horrendous death as all the trees, shrubs, grass, rocks, etc. were completely scratched bare. You could see how she had jumped into the air, scratching the surrounding brush within the length of the snare. I've got pictures of it but I'm not going to dig them out.

What a sad and tragic ending to a noble beast. It put a damper on the hunt for the next few days for all of us.

Poachers are a scourge.

Maybe they need to be snared to the tree and eat their own medicine but more than likely some judge in US would put injunction to it and let them go free because US constitution protects them…Dems would love that shit

Never been lost, just confused here and there for month or two

the easiest way to stop the poaching would be to have all poachers shot on site

Buffalo hunting in Zim we nabbed a poacher. I must say I felt for the man. What would I do if I was in his shoes? Find a job in a mine? Gas station? Day labor? Or wrest my living the bush on my own terms? If my family is short on food and money I will shoot trap snare a deer in a heartbeat and sell the excess. Particularly if it’s in my own heartland where I was born and raised. This poacher we nabbed was not a rich man in terms of money. But in skill stamina and courage he had me in spades. In short, while not sanctioning poaching but actually stopping it, this man had my respect and the ph’s as well.

Like many things in life there are many shades of poaching. How many of us can put hand on heart and say he has never killed a bird or beast that perhaps he shouldn't have? As a teenager with my father's old hammer gun I had a very flexible attitude as to which side of a boundary fence a rabbit might be sitting.
The ruthless gangs of well armed Somalis who cleaned out the elephants in Tsavo after the hunting ban were one end of the spectrum and Richard Leaky's shoot to kill policy was the only thing that stopped them.
On the other hand, when we caught a subsistence poacher in Cameroon with his homemade muzzle loader I had to admire his raw courage hunting buffalo with that thing.
I certainly felt that capital punishment would have been justified for the bastards who came into my high fenced deer farm with a spotlight one night when I was away hunting. They took out all my big breeding Fallow bucks and then left the gates open. I found their spotlight in the long grass where they had gutted one of the bucks.

As good as it sounds, I've hunted in an area under a shoot on sight order from the President of all people. It is rather stressful as the poachers know about that order too.
