If I remember correctly, he was the biggest I hooked into (about 3.5 metres) and I hooked and lost him twice. First time I had him on for about 20 or 25 minutes and the second time about 45 or 50 minutes......... Then he steamed off downstream, took 250 metres of line at which point I cut the line before he took the rod as well........ lotta fun though!

eyedocGuess you gonna have to re-evaluate the gear you are using if you aim to land the big guys.
Some might say what you are attempting is like hunting DG with a 45-70.

We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

FjoldI have an old Penn International 50S (2 speed) loaded with about 800 yards of 130 Lb Spectra that you can borrow. All you have to do is add the wire leader and go.

JudgeGSteve and Folks:
I was lucky enough to spend 10 or so evenings before a campfire and share a couple of charters... and drinks at the late, great Sea Cliff with Steve, his clients and his beautiful lady.... Everyone should be so blessed. Steve, tell everyone I said hello!
BTW,
Again, please.... What's a "Wanker"?
And, believe it or not, Steve really wears that hat and scarf when he hunts????
JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.
