Marula Fig Tree Area
Can anyone comment on Zimbabwe's Marula Fig Tree area as it relates to leopard hunting?

depends if you are hunting bait or hounds! Also where exactly as it is a farming area with many operators!

The area has huge cats and lots of them. But, as Martin says, it depends on the exact area. Can be very hilly, almost mountainous or flat farmland. Cats have been hunted hard as many of them are cattle killers. I killed mine (an honest 200 pounder near Fig Tree in the hills on the 12th day with hounds. Toughest and best hunt I've had yet. Gorgeous country. Another baid hunter in the same area at that time got his cat as well.

Some of Zimbabwe's biggest cats come out of here, baiting is obviously a little tougher than the hound option, but completely doable with the right PH. Most of the ' clever ' cattle killing cats of yesteryear are gone as the cattle farming has died down a bit ( compared to what it used to be ), so baiting leopard has become easier and more successful.
The Marula/ Figtree area has had a lot of hound hunts over the last several years, I do not believe that this has had an effect on populations, in fact it has probably taken out some of the more educated cats and allowed other males to move in and set up shop.
Be prepared to use different tactics on these cats than the valley.
Earlier hunts produce better results.

Bring a warm fleece June/ July

Be prepared for some blind time!

There used to be great areas just outside Bulawayo. Greg Michelson hunted them and always claimed it had the highest density of Leopard he had ever come across?
