What do you mean "non-trophy"? That sounds like an awesome trophy. I have two broken horn bulls at the taxidermist now and can't wait to get them back. They have character!
Hammond considers a buffalo bull 34” or narrower to be non-trophy. Mostly, they want younger bulls that size to be the ones shot as non-trophies. But the one I shot was very old, we think 12-14 years old and he was still with a bunch of cows. The bull was about 33” wide, broomed down, bosses missing a lot of horn and skull exposed, tattered ears and gray face, a great old bull that gave us a nice hunt. Hit hm a bit forward, where the humerus meets the scapula, 400 grain Bearclaw destroyed the shoulder, his leg was flopping loosely. Went about 50 yards. Bearclaw probably lost 150 grains of weight but went through the heaviest part of the leg bone. I love the 416 and Bearclaws for buffalo.

SCLawyerDLS,
You planning on getting us a full report? From the bits/pieces you've dropped, sounds like you had a hell of a trip. I'd like to get full scoop.
We are going to Africa
And will post my usual comprehensive report!

Yes, I’ll be filing a full report. It was a rather unusual ‘safari’ as we enjoyed a couple great non-hunting locations before actually arriving at Savé & Hammond. Heck, we even got to enjoy wonderful hospitality from a very gracious host at a stopover on our way to Africa. But don’t tell him I said that.
