The previous thread by John Crighton got me wondering about the age of the hunters when they went to Africa for the first time. This poll may give us a more definitive age profile.<BR><BR>The question is intended for the foreign hunters because I think the those born in Africa probably started hunting there as soon as they were able to pick up a rifle.What age were you when you first hunted in Africa?20 and younger21 to 29 years old30 to 39 years old40 to 49 years old50 to 59 years old60 to 65 years old66 and olderretired regardless of age

I was 28. I turned 29 two months after returning. It is a good thing I didn't know about Africa at 18. If I had, I would be an ex-pat living somewhere in either SA, Zim or Moz...
If I had a little extra financial cushion now I would be living there today.

I often wonder if my three sons (all in college) really know how lucky they were that they got to go to Africa to hunt at ages 16, 16 (twins), and 14. That trip was also my first trip, and I was 52.

Those of you who have kids are missing the most unbelievable bonding experience if you leave your kids out of your African plans.

I agree, though I haven't had the chance to take mine yet. At three and five, they're a bit young yet, though I look forward to taking them. I drag them along on domestic hunts, but a safari is definitely in their future.

I went on that "trip of a lifetime" at age forty. Thought it would be my one and only but have been back six times now. This coming summer I am going over either twice or for one extended trip.

44 for me, but my son came along and he was 18.

first safari (buff & PG) at age 31

second safari (buff & PG) at age 35

1st @ 63, last @ 64.

First, 47. Then, 48, 51, 53, 55,..... etc., etc., and 71. Can't get enough.

I was 45 yrs old, and that was 26 yrs ago!

Damn time passes when you're having fun!

The tender age of 35... I am lucky enough to be around at 48 and have a dozen trips under my belt. And my son goes with me in '09 for his thirteenth birthday! Heck of a way to start a young man's obsession early in life!
