Wendell ReichThere you go. Nice Eland! I love to hunt them too. It is tough to get over the sheer size of a mature Eland Bull. Bigger than a Buffalo and about as dangerous as a bunny rabit.
If they were agressive, they would give a Buff a run for his money. (And they would cost three times as much!)
Nice picture.
Russell: Check out my Nilgai.

This is a very big Nilgai; the Eland is 3 to 4 times his size.

CanuckJD,
That is a great bull! Thanks for posting it.
I am a recent Eland addict. I always wanted one (almost as bad as a buffalo), and after having hunted them I am hooked. My Eland was definately the #1 experience of my recent trip to RSA with Don G to Landelani.
Cheers,
Canuck
ps: nicely placed entrance hole!
Canuck: Thanks. Yes, that was a 416 sized hole at 240-270 yards, don't remember exactly. I know I guessed less than the PH by about 30 yards, and the bullet hit exactly where I aimed.
A friend got a Derby Eland in CAR that has really made me jealous. I might have to get a picture posted of it; it's done at the Taxi's. It's 51"

Eric AnsgarIf you can't get to Africa and still want to hunt an eland, try the Camp Cooley Ranch in Centerville Texas. My son shot a young bull there a couple of years ago.... 20" horns and several hundred pounds of meat. As my wife (who is standing here as I type) says "You can bring one of those home ANYTIME".

CanuckJD,
I am not sure exactly what it is about eland that I like so much, but a couple pictures really appealed to me and got eland stuck in my head while I was dreaming of going to Africa.
I have pirated these from "The Last of the Few" by Tony Sanchez-Arino, and from an article by C. Boddington in a recent issue of "Big Game Adventures". Though you might enjoy them as much as I do.

Here is another view (I put some other pics of it on another thread) of the Eland I was so extremely lucky to take in RSA this year hunting with Landelani...

It is a beautiful bull, but I have to admit that what really makes it so special to me was the way it was hunted, the effort it took and (mostly) the people that I was hunting with.

AtkinsonSome nice bulls posted here....I love to eat Eland and Nilgai, probably the two best eating wild animals on earth if you don't count oysters.
If I'm not mistaken Eland and Beef are the only two animals that marble.....The Kudu may also but I just can't recall....
