Hi
Does anyone hav a opinion on a FN mauser .375 H&H for a DGR. Is the FN in the same class as the 98 Mauser? How does it compair to the CZ 550?

The FN Mauser started out the same as the M98 design (less the military clip slot and thumb slot), but they changed the C ring to an H ring to make it cheaper to machine the left bolt lug raceway.

Experts have expressed the thought that they should not have done that.

I passed up an FN recently, and bought one of the Western Field Mausers done by Heym (still a C ring).

I really like the looks of the FN though.

I am building 3 rifles on FN actions and they are excellent actions, the single c ring is the most sought after.. The double cut actions are plenty good for all practical purposes.. The very high intensity calibers such as the 7STW are not recommended for any FN action.....Stay with the 375, 458, 458 Lott, 416, 404, calibers on the 06 case etc. and the short magnum calibers and you will never have a problem with an FN action...

They are not better than a Mauser mod 98, but close enough for all practical purposes. thumb
