Need German-speaking hunter
Need German-speaking hunter
As I recall, there is a German word for the sound of bullet impact on an animal. I think the word was somewhat onomatopoeic, i.e. sounds like what it represents. Anyone?

Thank you very much, gentlemen. Now, would someone be so kind as to interpret to English, or must I endure Google or Wiki?

Maybe it means the animal does.

I suppose one can expect anything from the Germans!
If one takes Walter as an example.
I have known him for so many years, have hunted with him so many times, but still cannot make head or tails about his behavior!

jdollari never knew Walter was German! never too old to live and learn, i guess...

Bullet hit
Ist allerdings schon längere Zeit her.
I found this, but it wasn't very helpful. I need more help, guys. I know you're out there.

The above is telling you that your position in relation to the shooter/animal will determine wether you hear the kugelschlag or not, as the Schussknall (Gunblast) can cause you not to hear it. Essentially Number 2 tells you that if you are behind the shooter you will hear the Kugelschlag, however wind can affect it, as well as other circumstances where your ear has not recovered in time hence making the quieter Kugelschlag less audible. The last sentence is telling you, that there is definately a Kugelschlag, you can't always verify it though due to wind, gunblast etc etc.. What exactly do you need more help with? All a "Kugelschlag" is, is a word that describes bullet impact or a positive hit..
"A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than by a mob of onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact."

Matt GrahamI love the sound of kugelschlag in the morning!

Just my reasoning, but I always thought if the person who hears the kugelschlag is closer to the animal than the shooter, it will be heard. If you are behind the shooter, then how can you first hear the kugelschlag . . . if the bullet has to first travel to the animal, hit it, then that sound of the schlag make it all the way back to you, before you hear the gun go off? Just doesn't make sense to me. Oh well, sometimes I hear it, sometimes I don't

Thanks for the interpretation, Deon. And to Matt Graham, I agree. At 0430 I had an inspiration. Could it be that it is the act of exercising the kugel muscle while schlagging?
Like Scriptus, I'm a bit of a sesquipedalian.

The above translation is not only "more uneloquently put" but also untrue. At least I have not once heard that word used synonymously for "Kugelschlag" during 32 years living in Germany.

I apologize, I did not mean that kugelschlag is synonymous with furz.
I was referring to the sound some hunters make when their shot hits the target... It was a poor attempt at humor.
