I want to mount a leopold VX 2 2x7 on a Ruger SM in 375 caliber. Would Ruger or Warne low rings be too low? Would I need extension rings with this scope to get proper eye relief?

The Ruger Rings the rifle came with will be fine. The Warne rings won't work, they are two wide, and as the mounting position is set on the Ruger, the wide ring will hit the front bell on the Leupold 2-7. At least it did on the Vari-X III.

The Warnes fit fine on a Leupold 1.5-5x20.

SBT, The rifle was used and had no rings. I don't want to have the scope sit up too high. I can take the rings off my Ruger #1. The 2x7 I want to use is on it but I don't know if the rings are low, med or high. Will #1 rings fit on the safari mag? Does Warne make extension rings for the Ruger? I looked at the Ruger site and new rings are $65 and if I buy QR levers for the Ruger rings, I'm over the $100 mark. If the Warne rings will work I'll buy them.
I want the QD type so I can use the express if I have too.

Rings for the Ruger No.1 will NOT work on the Ruger M77 rifles. The rings for the No.1 are of the same height. The rings for the M77 are different in height; the rear ring is taller than the front ring.

I have two of these Ruger Magnum rifles. I used the Ruger low rings for Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5x scopes on each rifle. These scopes have a 20mm objective (ie: straight tube scopes).

I have not tried mounting a scope with a larger objective. But, based on what I see with my straight tube scopes, I would GUESS that you will probably need at least medium rings for the Leupold VX2 2-7x. But, I could be wrong. I'm sure someone on here will have a more definite answer.

I can't answer that definitively as I left the rings on the scope when I traded for the 1.5-5x20. They were the rings that came with that rifle and I'm pretty sure they were low. The scope just fit, it was great. See if you can raise raamw here on AR and he could tell you. He might even sell 'em to ya.

SBT what power VX 111 did you try on your Ruger that would not fit? My old VX-11 scope is quite long and I thing it should fit. I may have to see if Ruger makes extension rings for this gun. Should not have a fit problem then. Thank you for all the great info.

A 2x7x33 will fit, but I don't think a 2x7x40 will, thus the confusion...All mine are 2x7x33 VariX 11s, as I'm from an earlier time!

Mine is and old 2x7x33 also. Would you know if would need to buy low or med ruger rings to use this scope on the Ruger safari mag rifle? Would Warne QR rings work? Thanks Ray
