My health is such that hunting in Africa is not going to be a dream fulfilled. However I do enjoy the pictures and reading about others adventures in Africa.
I almost broke out into a sweat looking at a road paving machine on BBC crunching up pallets of African elephant tusks. These were supposed to be going to China.
I really don't see how this is going to limit demand for ivory. The perps still all got their ill gotten gains (money).

Sure, every one in the chain of events leading to the stupid destruction needs to be driven over by a road-building machine.
But the actual field poachers - who in this case got their money
- and people who funded them did their foul deeds because they were motivated by just wishing to make money from the poaching. Nothing wrong wishing to make money. Nothing wring wishing to kill [by hunting ] an elephant. I just have it against poaching an elephant.
In stark contrast to this motivation the persons who gave the instruction to ride over the confiscated tusks did it to ??? ??? ??? . All I can think of is that they wanted to demonstrate and show their extreme stupidity! They really need to be taken out of the world gene pool, and driving over them with a road-building machine seems to me a very fitting way of doing the culling? I quite agree with Saeed: What a bunch of stupid idiots!

Anyway, I do hunt in the USA around my locale. Fees, taxes on ammo, licenses, hiring locals and the support of hunters in organizations like "Ducks Unlimited" have done more to increase wildlife than any poachers have done. I assume the same is true in Africa.
