madabulaRe; Shipping trophies from Cameroon
Does anyone have any experience good or bad regarding shipping trophies from Cameroon?
Specifically; I have heard that most safari companies send their clients trophies in bulk shipments to Paris and then shipping must be arranged from Paris to home destinations. This reportedly causes long delays in final destination arrival and a number of additional handling, freight charges.
I have also been told that Swiss Air will ship via Zurich straight on to US.
Best regards

safari-lawyerThe only experience I had was an expensive one. We did just what you've described. Cameroon to Paris, Paris to USA. I do not recall that there was any other option. Seems like it was $5000 by the time they arrived at my taxidermist's shop.

MARK H. YOUNGMike,
The Douala to Paris route for the Cameroon trophies may be expensive but it works very well. We've had no trophy problem on that route while dealing with Faro West. Personally I don't remember it taking a long time or it being exptremely expensive for my own tropies to arrive.

Mark, that answer is only as good as your memory. Personally, I remember a time when I used to have a good memory - if I recall correctly.

Mike, if I were you, I'd check the routes and prices directly with those on the ground and in the air. Fauna & Flora in NY or another shipping expediter/customs broker may be able to help.

madabulaMark; We are also hunting with Pierre.
I have talked to a few folks that had some delays and like Will had very high freight and handling charges.
I also talked to a Maria at Hunter International Brokerage and she says she has been successful with direct flights from Yaounde or Douala via Swiss Air.
So....we'll see!

MARK H. YOUNGMike,
I may be naive but I usually trust that the safari operator will use shippers and expediters that above everything else do a good job. Piere does that. I will tell you that his skinners are superb. They are trained in France and the capes were the best I've every received.
