Second Safari, March 2006
My second Safari Will be in March 2006.
I have booked with Dale Des Fountain of Brooklands Safaris. He comes recommended by a good friend. I met him at the Dallas Safari show in 2005 and we spent some time together hunting pigs and shooting on my deer lease after the DSC. I know I will enjoy hunting with him.
This is the "plan". I will be hunting for 31 days. The first 10 days or so will be in the Deka Tail, Primary game is 2 Trophy Bulls, along with several Crop Raiding Bulls, and "what ever other game gets in the way" [my words]. I have leopard and hopefully lion as well as all other plains game on "Quota". The next 10 days, or so, in their area near Lake Kariba in the OMAY where I have 6 cow elephants on quota, as well as hippo, croc, and what ever else gets in the way, with the last 10 days or so in the SAVE for Cape Buff [2] and what ever else gets in the way.
The reason I say "10 days or so" is because movement depends on when I am ready to move from one area to another. IE, we can stay in a certain area baised on how the hunting is going for a specific animal.
Ian Lewis will be videoing this Safari, as well as the others I will do.

As most of you know, it is all about elephants for me, so they are the primary animals, with lion, and leopard high on the list. [As they would be on anyones list].
Rifles taken will be the 450 No2 and the 9,3x74R Chapuis, as well as my 4" 44 Mag.
If conditions permit I will try and take a cow elephant or two with a side brain shot with the 44, just to add some spice to the hunt, but only if it can be done safely and properly, the elephant deserve no less.

We will drive between areas, it should add to the adventure of the Safari. Big Grin

Needless to say, I can hardly wait. Big Grin thumb

Oops, a typo, it is in 2006.

Damn Tony, that sounds like a great safari - at least 8 elephant, lion, leopard, hippo, buffalo and what not. This retirement sounds like the way to go!

As that wonderful safari is almost 2 years away, I hope you crawl the walls with safari fever between then and now. Mad

Your retirement sounds truly like a dream and good luck to you.

That's a fantastic trip! It would take most guys 5 or 6 trips to get all that done.

Now you are really upsetting me. It is now less than 12 months away and less time for safari fever to drive you mad. Mad

Bloody Great Retirement present! thumb

If you take all those elephants we will have to start calling you "Karamojo Tony" or "Tony Hadthaway Capstick".

Dude, I have no doubt you'll succeed at getting your game whenever or wherever it shows up. You're making me green with envy as I thought I had everything sewned up for an '06 trip but I guess I didn't hold my mouth open just right! I guess when the time is right (money and time), I'll get the chance. Good luck and I know you'll post a bunch of pics.

NE 450 No2,

That is one Hell of a safari you have planned. If you only take half the game you listed it will stil be a great adventure. I too have been able to go on fairly lenghty safaris and drive between areas. Adds a great deal to the overall experience.

Good Hunting,

Mark

I'm not sure which I envy more your trip or your retirement. At only 41 years of age and the way we're spending money to go to Africa, I may never get to retire bawling

Just got back from the DRSS hunt and one of the treats was watching Tony's professionally done video.

I think it's the best double rifle hunting video I ever seen! Everything was shot with a double!

gunsmithing
what kind of double was it? I made some for a fellow in 450 no.2 that turned out to have faulty chambers. The reamer that I got was several thousandths off in the full length department. This caused the pressures to go through the ceiling. This was discovered after the man sold the guns. He did not give me, the gunsmith enough time to work out the problem, and threatened law suit if I did not give him his guns immediatly. I knew there was a problem with either the load, or the chamber, but was unable to work it out before he got them, and sold them. They were William Douglas doubles, with 12 guage rifled barrels included.
