The snow-ball effect
Sitting here in the German snow and for some reason thinking of the African sun, Landcruiser 79's, Landrover Defender 110s, my khakis, and sundowners over a nice Braai has me considering a cheap safari in 2017.

Being in Europe air fare is cheap, I an fly business class to Windhoek or Port Elizabeth for under $2000, and many times if I pick the right day I can fly cattle class for under $700.

I have some offers from the major booking agencies and am thinking about a combination cull/trophy hunt for August or September for 5-8 days.

In typical fashion you add a few of these, and a few of those and things get expensive, and your cheap cull hunt ends up costing $7000.

I read about you guys and your problems with Jo-Burg and I think maybe the solution is not to have a checked bag? Does that sound like a good idea?

Leave the CPAP at the house, 3 shirts, 3 pants, some socks and underwear, keep your binoculars and a cheap camera in the pocket in front of your seat and get on the plane?

That is what I did 11 years ago in Namibia, and I am thinking there is no reason not to do it again.

All I can say is don't leave your CPAP behind. It is considered your "One Personal" item and does not count against any baggage allowance. I don't go anywhere without mine.

I do think if your not taking guns you can get by with a maxed out carry on. Actually I've had clients do just that.

Mark,

I don't really sleep very well without it. Good idea!

That's what I did this past year for my hunt in the Erongo Mountains of Namibia. I had one carry on backpack and used the outfitters rifle. It takes a lot of stress out of African travel.
