I would have to be very hungry to eat a chimp.

But that's the point, isn't it?

I believe there's some modicum of mysticism involved in eating primates there. After all, they also have eaten their enemies' flesh in the recent past during the various tribal wars only a few years ago.

Lo do they call to me,
They bid me take my place
among them in the Halls of Valhalla,
Where the brave may live forever.

I was more interested to see what he had to say about sport hunting. It seems that while he recognizes that sport hunting is important in conservation, he still tries to toe the HSUS/PETA line in some ways. He condemns sport hunting interests for poaching and "canned" hunting, while posting several photos of "poached" animals. I guess he hasn't internalized the fact that where hunters come to hunt, they bring money, and that money provides an incentive not to poach (at least among those who share in the money). It also provides a strong incentive for those who share in the money to police against poachers. HSUS/PETA hasn't "saved" one African animal, including primates, with their approach. We sport hunters have saved millions of them, and we spend our money and time ensuring that there will be huntable populations of animals.

Chimps are just the tip of the iceberg!

Fact is, where there is abject poverty there will be huge aounts of poaching for "Bush Meat"...Duh! Zimbabwe is a great example. The "land grab" of the past 5 years has devastated wildlife populations outside of protected areas.

This is not to say that there isn't a lot of really excellent hunting still left in Zim, there is, but I don't reckon anybody will argue the fact that after the land reclamation policy was envoked game species in particular took a major hit from illicit activities, e.g. poaching for bush meat.

Maybe the Chimps plight will strike an emotional chord that will lead to better poaching controls and hopefully sound resource development and a workable sustainment policy for all species.

500 Grains you're a sharp mindded guy, what are your thoughts on this??!

I am sure that some may be repulsed by the thought of eating monkey meat. The real concern is the recently found migration of viruses from human to primate and back to human. More research is needed to make any intelligent decision, JMHO.

I would love to hunt every kind of chimp/monkey/primate/etc. that inhabits Africa (that are not endangered). If baboon hunting is any representation, it is awesome fun - some of the best varmint hunting out there.
