Help with Elephant paperwork/importation
There is a resource with SCI or somewhere else that helps with this?

I have one coming in from RSA in November and want to make sure everything is 100%.

I would use someone like Well Worldwide (Lynette Lilly or Cindy Rulon) in Houston to handle the importation. They know what the paperwork needs to look like, work with US Customs, etc. When there were issues on importing crocodile from Mozambique they asked the outfitter I used to send pictures of the tags, etc. to confirm with US Customs that every aspect was correct before shipment.

good advise there from Mike.
Since the Cecil debacle things have changed slightly when exporting from South Africa.US fish and wildlife now also want to see the hunting register and paperwork on the South African side , not only the cites export permit. Make sure you , or your import agent , get copies from your Outfitter.

+1 on Well Worldwide and Cindi Rulon. Especially since you live so close.

Thanks!

What about Coppersmith? I've used them 3 times prior for plainsgame.

All I can say is that Well Worldwide, Cindy and Lynette, will deliver. That is not to say that Coppersmith will not but I have used Well on many occasions without an issue, including their proactive dealing with the Moz croc situation where they basically liaised between US Customs and the exporter in Moz to make sure everything was in perfect order before the shipment was released for transit.

+3 - After some very persistent, tactful but unsuccessful attempts to get USFWS in DC to contact Zimbabwe and confirm the original paperwork for my son's hippo had been lost by Delta and new documents should be generated, Cindi somehow convinced the Houston-based FWS to accept the photocopies of the paperwork today. I've used Well Worldwide every safari, and I make the shipping entity send copies of the paperwork to Cindi for her approval before anything gets shipped.

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

You can certainly use whoever you want. Coppersmith may be great. I don't see anyone posting ringing endorsements though.

An individual I have hunted with has shot over 200 species in the last five years. (Not animals, species. The number of animals is much higher) He runs it through Cindi at Well Worldwide. He is not even one of her top five customers. I say this to let you know she has seen most everything from most everywhere.

Lynette at Well has handled all my trophy shipments including CITES permits, etc. They've always been flawless.

A buddy nearly lost a Leopard because Coppersmith didn't catch a paperwork problem. I've used Well Worldwide on my last two trips and those folks are on top of things.

Maybe as important as your import agent on the US side , is the export people on this side. They need to be on top of things and know exactly what is expected on that side. When both sides are on top of their game , the risk is diminished that anything can go wrong , especially when dealing with Cites animals.
