Somalia: Lions Kill 6 People in Southern CountryMogadishu — Hungry lions apparently affected by a severe drought have attacked a group of nomadic Somalis, killing six of them in the south of the country near Kenya, Shabelle radio reported on Saturday.
The lions also devoured at least 30 domestic animals belonging to the nomadic people.
Witnesses told Shabelle Radio that the lion attacks occurred in separate incidents in the village of Diif in the Lower Jubba region and the village of Garinley in the Gedo region.
Local residents said that droughts and deforestation were the main factors in the attacks.
They said many of the villagers who felt threatened left their abodes and fled to safe areas nearby after the attacks.
"Local dwellers have started efforts to hunt the lions and we are calling for the locals not to desert the homes" a resident said.
