Bellers to the Caprivi
The Bellers are off to Namibia tomorrow for an Ele hunt with Karl. A bit of a shaky start...Frank locked up his 577 DR and had to send it back for repair. He decided to whip up some 416 Rigby reloads for his Heym Express Magnum bolt rifle, but got a case stuck using some new water-based case lube and broke the shell holder. Looks like he'll be taking the 416 Blaser, unless something happens to that between now and the morning :-)

Bad news about the rifle issues. I've had gun and scope issues before leaving for africa in the past, but fortunately got them worked out in time. I always have a back-up rifle available.

I just received my 500NE back from Merkel after a rush fix on the triggers. We leave in 5 weeks for Ele w/Karl in the Caprivi as well.

Will be very interested in reports on this hunt. Wishing them a great safari and a big Ele. Karl took a beauty just a couple days ago. Well matched ivory estimated in the 60# range.

Mike, you'll have a great hunt. One of the few hunts I've done where an open-sighted double is the best choice of rifle....the Merkel 500 will be perfect.

I got the Blaser R93 lined out just this afternoon. I had a box of North Fork flat point solids in .416, & at 50 yards they produce one hole groups in my Blaser .416 Rem. When I get the elephant, I'll text some pics to Retreever & he can post them. I also will be trying for another hippo; I shot one two years ago in Dande North, it sank like a perfect brain shot, but we never saw it again. Just for the record, after trouble with the double, I wanted to take my new Heym .416 Rigby, but had the bad luck with the reloading. That rifle shoots amazingly well. I may have to buy another one just like it in .375 come January at the DSC show. Well 'nuff said, wish me luck, & I'll post a hunt report when I get home.

Frank & Mike - Good luck on your hunts with Karl. I'm booked with him for an Elephant starting May 23rd. Make sure you leave at least one for me. wave

Frank - If you have a case stuck in your die, RCBS makes a tool that will remove the case. I forgot to lube a case once and I got to test it out. Worked fine. If you happen to have a 1/4 x20 tap and appropriate drill bit all you need is the cup from RCBS that fits on the end of the die. You can even use a makeshift cup made from a bunch of steel washers. If you're interested, PM me and we can talk on the phone. I should be able to talk you through the process.

Gee, seems like Frank could just open up the armory and select something suitable for the job. Not like he is stuck with an old single barrel H&R to do the job... rotflmo

Best of luck! Heard elephants are easier to hit than antelope. tu2

Labman-

Sounds like yours will be the safari with Karl immediately proceeding our arrival on June 2, so you must leave two bulls for us, please!

Have a great safari and you have a PM inbound from me.

It appears there should be a steady stream of Caprivi Eles falling to AR Ele hunters over the next few weeks! Big Grin

Wow, sounds like half of AR is going elephant hunting with Karl!
Good Luck to Frank, Tom & Mike, hope you all have safe, great safaris & bring
home giant ivory.

This is one of the problems with AR, you find a sweet hunting set-up
like Karl's, post a positive hunting report & now he fills up & there
is no room for you anymore! Smiler

Good for Karl, he is an excellent, hard working PH who deserves this.
Everyone have a great safari!!
