Countdown to South Africa

CharlesLCountdown to South Africa
We are under 100 days before we depart for South Africa for our second plains game hunt. The wish list this time is Springbok, Bushbuck, Nyala, Blue Wildebeest or Black Wildebeest (haven't decided which yet), Blesbok and Zebra. I would like another Warthog if I can get a good one.

Idaho SharpshooterHow Neat!!
I'll race you! April 8th about 7:45am out of Boise for SA. Kudu, Gemsbuck, Mtn Zebra, Impala and Wart Hog. And as many Baboons as I can shoot for free!
Illis Ras (sp?), about two hours north of Jo-berg.
What fun just preparing for it is.
regards,
Rich

CharlesLRich,
That sounds great. Other than Zebra and Baboons that is what I did in 2008.
Good luck and I will be looking for photos and a hunting report.

rxgremlinRich,
The town is Ellisras which is now called Lephalale. I for one don't use the new names.
What outfit are you using?

Idaho SharpshooterRXGremlin,
thanks for the correction. Reon has just said the name on the cell phone, not in an Email.
It does sound like a lovely place, and I am very much looking forward to the trip.

rxgremlinRich,
What company are you using? Have you been to the Limpopo province before?

CharlesLRich,
I hunted northwest of Thabazimbi and southwest of Ellisras in 2008.

Idaho SharpshooterRX,
Have you ever heard of Angus Brown Safaris? Reon von Tonden started with him as a teenager. He is a bowhunter, and specialized in guiding archery clients. Over the holidays he and his wife opted to start their own company. I will be their first client in April. He is working to put together a good website, and post here. He has exclusive access to some good hunting areas in the Ellis Ras area north of Jo-Berg. This will be my first trip to SA, so I am not real familiar with the area. I will just say that you sleep in a lodge, and day rates and trophy fees are very competitive.

CharlesL60 days to go and I have started going through my checklist.
I have boxes setup in our "guest room" labeled "carry on" and "checked" to start compiling stuff.
Got a new pair of the same shoes I wore in 2008 and wearing them daily.
Convinced my wife that she needs to buy a new camera.

Bank is ordering me some larger denominations of travelers cheques.

Idaho SharpshooterGo CharlesT!!
Twenty-five days here. I think I have packed and repacked at least once a day. I bought a new pair of Danner 6" high boots and have been wearing them about every other day from daylight to go-to-bed.

shakariRich,
What date(s) are you in Johannesburg? - sounds like I'll be travelling east about the time you're arriving in the dark continent.

I know Reon.
He is a very good bow hunter and I am sure you will have a great hunt with him.

Yes. Doesn't he usually conduct his plains game hunts over agricultural food plots? At least that's what my gunsmith Bobby Hart told me as he hunted with Angus. Said it was like hunting the lower 40 of the neighbor's dairy farm, not wildest Africa.

Idaho SharpshooterA friend and a buddy of his hunted in August of 2008. None of the video looked like farm land to me. But, that's just thirty hours of video VS what somebody told you.

CharlesLThe countdown is starting to get exciting. I'm down to 16 days to departure. Been packing and repacking. I have also been watching Saeed's 2009 hunting videos to really get the juices flowing.
