Multiple buffalo in Zim
Is it possible to hunt multiple buffalo (bulls) on one trip in Zim? I know there are options for 2 or or 3 in TZ.

Rock,

Yes is the short answer but often the 2nd bull is quite expensive as it usually can be sold as a whole other hunt so there is no advantage to the operator to let you have more than one for a trophy fee. A cow buffalo can often be had though for a reasonable trophy fee.

Thanks Mark so I would assume you might recommend Tanzania for this sort of hunt then?

Yeah! I would recommend Tanzania for various reasons but you have to run the numbers for a comparison to see what your total cost might be.

In most cases I think you will be able to shoot two buffalo in Zimbabwe for less than you can in Tanzania. But damn those buff in Masailand are huge. Plus you will get the benfiet to hunt a couple of other unique species in Masailand.....

In Zim it is just a daily rate game. If the outfitter sells his buffalo on a 7-day hunt, then you will have to book two 7-day hunts to shoot two buffalo (or at least that will be the starting point for negotiation).

and 2 one week buffalo hunts will quite likely cost you a good deal less then a 10 day two buffalo hunt in Tz, especially when you look at the outrageous charter fees in Tz. hell, you could probably do them in 2 separate but nearby areas for less and have an extra 4 days of hunting to boot.

All it takes is money. Want to kill a hundred buff this year? Just get out your checkbook.

Maybe at the end of the season when an outfitter has several buffalo still on license for the year, you might be able to negotiate a better deal.

I took a late season quota clean-up hunt that included one buffalo as part of the package. As things worked out the outfitter had 3 buffalo on quota and I could take the second and third for the normal trophy fee. I ended up only taking two, but I had the impression that the outfitter would have been happy if I took the third as well.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Especially true in some conservancies and concessions where the operator must pay for a certain percentage of quota, whether taken or not. As it gets right down to the end of the season, they get surprisingly affordable!

I have shot up to 12 bulls in Ziumbabwe on a 21 day hunt, and I can assure you the price was a LOT cheaper than doing so in Tanzania.

Mind you that was a few years ago, and I normally hunt at the end of the season, so whaever is left on quota I shot.

I have shot more than one on a Zim hunt.

As Mark said, it gets a little pricey for a second bull, although at the end of the season if there is left over quota, it can be "negotiable". I don't think many (any) of us can even approach the style that Saeed hunts with, but getting more than one is not that difficult, or that outrageously expensive.

Also, if its not the trophy that you are worried about, cow buff hunts are pretty classic herd hunts, and can be just as pleasantly aggravating trying to get a decent clear shot at one. The trophy fee for a cow is usually substantially less than a bull.

I've done both, and although I prefer the dagga boy hunt, some guys prefer the herd hunts, so take your pick and have at it!

Yes,

I was the last hunter at a camp in Zim. in 2009. I shot two buff withing 3 minutes of each other. The company still had six unsold buff. Had I not elected to hunt and subequently screw up an elephant I probably would have shot one or two more. Hell I might have shot all six.
