ghundwanIs this method of hunting Giraffe ethical?
Don't know where how or when but it gotta hurt!
27 January 2009, 17:54
SaeedAbsolutely!
How would one kill a giraffe with an aeroplane then?
Perfect neck shot.
27 January 2009, 18:04
GatogordoObviously he needed a tougher projectile. Too much expansion.

I would love to see a video of that.

jcarrVery tough shot, after all very limited chance for a follow up.

BwanahileDid the hunter have to pay a trophy fee for the giraffe AND the airplane?? I am surprised the plane is not more seriously damaged. Any details on where and when this happened?
27 January 2009, 19:31
SevensI'd be curious when the pilot last had an eye exam. How do you miss seeing a giraffe?
27 January 2009, 19:35
MacD37Not very reliable weapon! If the first wing had not put him down, there was no chance of useing the other wing for follow-up! In this case the giraffe was indeed a member of the dangerous game of Africa!

retreeverI call it negligence should have buzzed the airstrip and the airplane was trespassing on the giraffes domain so he should be charged with homicide by motor vehicle..

retreeverThis guy is called the air traffic controller at Mseguni airstrip in the Selous... He hs a nasty habit of chasing airplanes.. The pilots know of him and buzz the strip before landing..
An up close photo so you can identify him by sight...

Once, about twenty years ago, a section manager on Nuanetsi Ranch was killed by a giraffe. He was driving home from the pub at night and he hit the giraffe from behind. The giraffe collapsed on the roof of his pick-up and that was that.

Wendell ReichFlying out of the Okavango once, the Lechwe scared the crap out of me. As soon as we started our takeoff roll, every Lechwe in the Okavango decided that they needed to run beside the plane, crossing in front of it as we gained speed.
I was seriously puckered, the pilot did not seem concerned.
After we were airborne, he turned to me and calmly said, "They always do that."

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.

May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

It isn't that he missed seeing him. The pilot was actually Oddjob from Goldfinger, and he just temporarily misplaced his hat.

Since we are all agreed that the giraffe chose to die, it can be confidently deduced that its next of kin are liable for the damages.

No, the giraffe was to blame. If anyone has to pay for anything, it should be the giraffe's relatives. The giraffe family are accountable!

Michael RobinsonI also love the MS comment by quickshot. Bullseye!

As usual, the guy had constant videos of his "exploits" rolling on multiple monitors in his booth at the SCI convention.
I was delighted to see - as I walked past - that hardly anyone was paying attention to them. One can only hope that people are wising up.
Now the lion, on the other hand . . . who says hunting from a vehicle is safe?

when I was boarding the shuttle bus at Reno SCI, I noticed a guy next to me was carrying the complete video Sullivan DVD set---bundle of 6-8 DVDs I think.
I stated some comment like-wow thats quite the bundle of DVDs--- something like that.
He responded by saying, " ya, if I am going to hunt with him I better watch how he hunts".
I was tempted to ask him if he intends to watch MS shoot his trophies for him.---but I kept my mouth shut and figured he has 6-8 DVDS to watch and he should be able to figure it out on his own.
