RamhunterHelp With SAPs and Meet and Greet
I have a friend with a USA rifle team which will be traveling to South Africa for a competition in 2021.He has asked for some help on SAPs forms, getting rifles thru customs, meet and greet, etc. My knowledge bank on these subjects is 10 years old and a lot has undoubtedly changed since then.
Can anyone provide some recommendations on sources I could direct him to on these subjects. A couple of names I remember are Air 2000 and Gracy Travel. Are these still quality outfits? Are there others he should consider? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

JaglavGenerally speaking the competition team normally takes care of the firearms paperwork for the athletes. They may end up using Air 2000 or another outfit but it should be taken care of at the team level.

MARK H. YOUNGWhat wildmansix said but as Jaglav said I would think the team would be taking care of all of this.

Use Enough GunI would respectfully ask your friend if he has talked with the team captain and/or others involved with the USA Contingent about what has been done to arrange for rifle importation and forms. Hopefully, this is not the first time that this USA rifle Team has traveled abroad and I am sure that they have procedures that they follow for everyone involved, so there are not any issues with one of the team members. Can't see this being an 'each for his own' issue, especially when firearms are involved. If it is the first time for the team, then Travel With Guns (Steve Turner) would be my first choice for everything that you have listed.

Magnum Hunter1I did it myself for 3 safaris and have since used only Henry Durrheim at RiflePermits.com
Its worth the money to me. I think its about $110.
Anna Coetzee has always met me at the airport and she has been great.

This is exactly what every country's shooting teams do.
I would not get involved in it personally, let the team do it, or complications can arise.

ijlI used to travel to South Africa regularly to shoot in IPSC matches. We downloaded the SAPS 520 form, filled it out, and sent it to the host organisation, the South African Practical Shooting Association. SAPSA then got us our temporary licenses, so my suggestion is to approach the national shooting association in South Africa that administers the discipline in question - ESPECIALLY if the event is only in 2021.
Once you get in the system, it gets easier. After the first couple of times, South Africa's CFR would issue us temporary permits the entire year, so our firearms were de facto licensed there. Every time I went to South Africa I would take my gun. This isn't antient history, just a couple of years ago. It's easy for sporting matches.
