A 300gr mono-metal bullet at 3000fps will probably expand and work fine but will a 500gr mono-metal? I am concerned that it may not expand and instead perform like a solid. The point is that one should use good "softs," in whatever form, rather than solids.

The notion that persists to use solids is quite misguided.
