Singleshot03Safari Club Blue Bag -hunters providing for the community
The Southwest Ohio Chapter of Safari Club International provided over #150 of medical and school supplies to the Shiwa and Bangweula areas of Zambia
We provided supplies to a clinic, a hospital, and four schools. Amazingly, they cannot get gauze, burn cream and antibiotic cream, and Tylenol for children. They rewash the ace bandages; if they do not have bandages and gauze, the nurses use part of their uniforms.
We provided the schools with pencils, pens, crayons, sharpeners, erasers, and more. The kids were excited to get those little erasers that go on the end of a pencil. They acted like they were getting tickets to a Taylor Swift concert. One 10-year-old boy told Charlie Harvey -PH that the school breaks a pencil into 4 pieces for four kids to use, and this was his first whole pencil. The kids also loved the soccer balls.
The kids and teachers were very thankful! Jo Harvey was great at explaining the role of SCI in conservation and letting the doctor, nurses, teachers, staff and kids know that these supplies are coming from
hunters. So if you feel inclined our your next trip I encourage you to bring supplies with you or donate to the local community. It is much needed and appreciated.

bwanamrmI have always thought that this is one of SCI's finest programs. Kudos to you for taking them with you and sharing them with the local population. And great pictures of some happy folks...

larryshoresGreat program.
They have some other great programs which are not well known. For example, handing out a large number of survival kits after the Mozambique hurricane.

Bwana338The last time I flew into South Africa and them on to Namibia, I was not allowed to check the blue bag. That was when South Africa airline changed the bag requirements that soft sided bags would not be accepted.
I learned later that all I needed to do was put some card board taped to the bottom and it would be good to go. That met the hard side requirements.

Charlie64.
Always good to help schools and the likes when and where we can. Have done similar things in Zim a number of times. Well done!
Ps remember a thread on AR a while back where someone flying from the US with blue bags told the airline that it was charity / donation stuff and should go free and not be charges as an extra suitcase. Airline was deaf on both ears to that one!
