Man bitten to death

A BEATRICE man was bitten to death by a snake while casting nets in a dam at a farm over the weekend.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Godfrey Mubaiwa said Tellmore Meki (23) of Mlangi Farm in Beatrice was casting nets on Saturday at Caroline Farm in the company of his two friends when the incident occurred.

"It is believed that Meki, who was in the dam, called out to his colleagues after the snake had bitten him and they rushed to pull him out," Asst Insp Mubaiwa said.

He said one of the colleagues later reported the matter at Beatrice Police Station, whose officers attended the scene and ferried Meki to Chitungwiza General Hospital.

"He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and the post-mortem was waived by a Chitungwiza magistrate, Mr Brighton Pabwe," he said.
