Need Some Help!
I was a lucky recipient of a $30 off coupon from Cabela's. Perhaps some of the rest of you got one as well. You have to spend a hundred (or more) to use it. I am looking for suggestions as to what I should procure. An item that would be useful on my next African venture. Help me spend my coupon!

A new safari jacket, shirt, shorts and gaiters (on sale). If you dont reload, get 3 or 3 boxes on ammo! If you are still having trouble, send me the coupon.............

If you can get to the store in Dundee, your best value would be to stock up on neat stuff from the Bargain Cave in the back. "Returns" and "overstocks" are your best bang for the buck at a Cabela's store.

Aside from that... footwear. Hunts are made or broken by footwear. Good boots or shoes are worth 20 times their weight in gold, and the same is pretty much true for socks.

Also... instead of adding new items, so to speak, considering adding accessories to things you already own. Look at everything you have, guns and gear, and ask yourself what would "improve" what you already own.

Just some thoughts. Happy shopping, Ann!

Well, I have to buy from the catalog or the website and I have to use it by January 9th.

Keep the suggestions coming!

Russ,

I will probably go down to the Dundee store after the Holidays. The taxidermy displays alone are worth the trip.

what a question - kindalike a kid in a candy store with a nickel. Try using it as an excuse for the better half that it made an excellent start for a doublegun

This is without question, the most comfortable, useable hunting shirt I own:

And, it's on sale.

Boresnakes are great for travelling, very useful and easy to use. Non-aerosol gun- and stockoil + a quality wax. These always come in handy.

I was at the Prairie Du chien store the weekend before thanksgiving and picked up a pair of Irish Setter boots. I planned to break them in by wearing them occasionally during my Wisconsin deer hunt the next week. I ended up wearing them all week, unquestionably the most comfy hunting boots I have ever owned. I can't tell you off hand what model they were, but they were uninsulated, and waterproof, leather/camo type, great boots!

Ann,

Don't mess around trying to get to $100. Go to the "fine" gun room and do some damage! They will be glad to give you $30 off.

I'll tell you what NOT to buy! The only item I ever bought from Cabelas that I returned because I was unhappy with it:

Do NOT buy the cot with the tent attached to it. It's the biggest hunk of crap I ever bought from a catalog. It was poorly made, and since it folds horizontally in the center, you are either laying on your back or your stomach, and flexed like a reverse taco. It kills my back just thinking back at it.

Then when you get inside the top is just a few inches from your face, and it's almost impossible to get out of gracefully if you are over about 5'7"

Ann- I have two of those and am gonna use them for gift certificates. One for my son and one for my son-in-law. You might be able to buy yourself a gift cert, then spend it when you decide what you want. Just a thought.

Do not pay any attention to these dorks.

Buy 2 pairs of Tevas, rotating one for hunting, and one for camp. The staff usually do an excellent job of washing them.

If those were the "Trackers" I agree. I bought them and a pair of danners at the same time. I love Danners, but after wearing the Trackers for three days in the bush I sent the Danners' back and got two more pair of the "trackers". Very comfy and they support my ankles exactly the way I need them to.

Seeing you already have all the gear you need ....

Quote:

Move over boys, there's a new hunter in the woods. Join Hunter Ann as she takes to the field in search of the same trophies that Dan pursues. Hunter Ann is ready to take to the field with binoculars, an API Baby Grand treestand, a scoped rifle with sling, hunter orange vest and hat with safety harness, rattling antlers and LaCrosse boots.

I would get a tent and a "Dan" to share it with.

Quote:

Bowhunter Dan comes complete with a Hoyt HavocTec bow, arrows, rattling antlers, Rocky snakeskin boots a ScentLok storage bag and cap.

You can pinch the bow from Dan.

Where else are you going to get all this gear for thirty bucks?!
