Elephant hide rug?

AglifterElephant hide rug?
This is probably a bad idea, but, can an elephant hide be moved whole? It would seem like an interesting, and durable, way to "carpet" a trophy room...

shakariIt's not impossible......... expensive perhaps, but not impossible. After all, it's not unheard of for some people to have fullmount Elephant trophies shipped.
Lifeform Taxidermy shipped some last year.
Hello
In South Africa, the tanneries laughed when I came with my flatskinned elephant hide, they all said the biggest they could handle was about the size of big steer, and that I had too cut the hide smaller,
So I wasted a whole day flatskinning a elephant
Have since decided that I will cut in as big as possible and will have the only hunting truck with elephant skin seats
Walter has put elephant skin on his cars seats for years. It is the original Audi Quatro.
We are in the process of re-decorating our sitting room. And some of the seats are being covered in elephant and buffalo skins.

zimbabweHow in heavens name would they skive or thin a whole skin? Ive never seen a skiver that would even handle a whole steer hide though I'm sure there must be.

tsibindi...Kwan, you're a bit late for having the only cruiser with ele hide covered seats. A good friend (and a a Zim P/H) has ele skins in his cruiser for at least five years now. He also has the bench in the rear covered. He told me it's the only material tough enough to withstand the "hammering" the seats/bench endure.

Michael RobinsonYou want a leather rug? I would think that would be rather unattractive and impossible to maintain.
Better to use the hide to surface a chair (or the seat or back of a chair) or a couch, IMHO.
I have seen an elephant hide couch and it was impressive.

Ele hide seat covers have been around for a very long time.
