Take down rifles for Africa
I just returned from my second out of the US hunt using a takedown rifle. On the return to the US, I walked through customs and re-checked the gun case without ever stopping or telling the wonks I had a gun.

I was not stopped your questioned and the case showed up.

Have you experienced this as well?

I've had it happen multiple times.

In JNB, my takedown case almost always ends up on the regular luggage carousel. Probem, there, of course, is that you must get a SAPS license if you're going to R.O.N. and fly up to Vic Falls in the morning. I've retrieved the case, called security, had them deliver the case through the back door of SAPS and then got my license in the regular way.

Coming back through the U.S. it happens, too, but don't you have to note upon entry documents (or the electronic kiosk) that you have a firearm (or one of the generic items that includes a firearm.)

In Atlanta, I just take my case to the "firearms" room, get the Customs agent's attention and they usually interrupt whatever they are doing and check my firearms immediately. That way, I'm first or second in clearing and also don't run any risk of not properly filling out the entry documents???

Here's a custom's form. I decided to download one to see if I was correct. Probably not. Maybe it doesn't ask about firearms, either specifically or generically.

Just came back through Salt lake, showed the guy at the door I had a fire arm case, he asked if I had any food , I said no, he said "get outa here" Last time at Vegas I got hassled to no end, go figure.

Often. Sometimes with a full sized rifle case.

I never complain. Cool

I have had the same experience with a short TuffPak for take-downs. They don't even question it normally. I haven't had a bad experience yet coming back into the country with firearms.

All the time with the Blaser. In 5 years have only been asked once at JFK to open it.

Interesting thread. I'm taking my Thompson Center to RSA this year in a take down case. I wonder if it will just come out with the regular luggage...and then to the SAPS office.
