Best Trophy Bull Elephant Hunt for Under $25,000

SBTBest Trophy Bull Elephant Hunt for Under $25,000
I don't know that I'll ever be able to do this, but I thought I better start gathering information. What do you guys think is the best trophy bull elephant hunt available for under $25,000 (including trophy fee). By best, I mean chances of success on a fair chase bull with ivory of 55 pounds or better on each tusk. I'd like to start meeting some of the outfits at this years Dallas Safari Club convention.

Karl SAt that price, Zim is about your only option, and not a lot of bulls that size available there, unless you go early (April to June).

infinitoHave a look at the end of the each year (Oct./Nov) for "end of season hunts", where Outfitters need to fill their qouta's. Be prepared to leave on short notice for about 14-20 days.
I posted a hunt for a Trophy Ele AND Lion for $28k last month, and I know of a few other guys that have available packages for that price at the end of each season. Zim/Moz and Tanzania will be your destination.

Kyler HamannI took my 57x60 bull for about that with Russ Broom Safaris in Zim. They had taken 3 about that size before I got there April of '04 and a couple larger (one in the 80's) after I left.
Feel free to email with any questions.

KathiFor the 2007 season Zim has gone to the sliding scale on ivory weight. As an example,HHK has $10,000 trophy fee for bulls under 49 pounds
$12,000 trophy fee for bulls 50-59 pounds
$14,000 trophy fee for bulls 60-69 pounds
$15,000 trophy fee for bulls over 70 pounds
This is base on the weight of the heaviest tusk, not combined weight.
I have seen other outfitter's price list pretty close to these figures.

MARK H. YOUNGKathi,
I hate to see that. Trophy fees based on inches or pounds just takes some of the fun out of the hunt for me. Its like if you are lucky and get a big whatever your going to get hammered for your good luck or doing some great research and putting yourself in a position where a big whatever is possible.

A question. My guess is a lot of PH's usually underestimate slightly a trophies size. So some clients aren't upset if it is smaller than they guessed it to be.
If they make a mistake on an elephant's tusk weight, and it breaks the 'barrier', do they pay the difference?
In any case, how many 50 lbs or 70 lb a side elephants are coming out of Zimbabwe out of HHK? Most seem these little dinky 25 to 35 lb tusks?

mufasaThe trophy fee on bulls with 60 pounds a side in Botswana are $25,000, and that's just the trophy fee, not the entire hunt. MUFASA

MARK H. YOUNGmufasa is exactly right as I just did a quote for a guy on just such a hunt. Those kind of prices make $36,500 for ivory averaging about the same as Bots but in Zim sound pretty darn good.

That means I will no longer hunt elephants in Zimbabwe!
Any time they tie up the trophy size to the animal, it is off my hunting list, period.

SBTHartley,
I'd much prefer a monkey on my back instead of an elephant.

I am on my way to the deer stand. Where I will ponder that expression. That is not an expression I have heard used in the south.

Just figure the trophy fee is $15k, then if the animal is smaller you get a discount

It's all about how you conceptualize it.

SBTHartley,
Having a "monkey on your back" is slang for heroin addiction. I believe this addiction to big game hunting may be harder to kick.

N E 450 No2I shot a 55/50 pounder with HHK June 2004 in the OMAY.
Do not be suprised if the Trophy fee for elephants starts at 12K next year in Zim.

Bill 5248For advice on trophy elepants at good rates, you might contact Vaughan Fulton at Classic Safaris. He has some good deals on end of season elephants in the Caprivi Strip in northeastern Namibia. These elephants come out of Chobe Park in Botswana and wander north into Namibia for better food. I took one this year with him. It is hot there, but I found it a good experience. Good hunting. Bill
