PeglegHow many of the big five
Just wondering how many of the big five have the experienced hunters on this forum bagged and how many of each do you have under your belt.
The only easy day is yesterday!

Aspen Hill AdventuresOne leopard, one tuskless cow elephant and a hippo, but the hippo is probably better classified as the dangerous 6!
I am a minor leaguer compared to many who post on A-R!

bull1The only member of the "big-five" I have taken is the buffalo. I now have six and I'm making plans for number seven in 2007. Kinda like the movie "Groundhog Day" with Bill Murray. I just can't get past them...they just trip my trigger!
To take the other members of the group would be a real hoot. But because of the expense, I've decided to stick with buffalo hunting and just take a few more of them. I'm sure taking elephant or one of the big cats would be just as intoxicating but that's a habit I know I can't afford!

butchloci guess i've got 6 of the big 7 - never will go after a rhino but I was on hunt for a white one years ago with another guy who wanted one. Kinda like shooting a cow in her milking stall.
13 January 2006, 18:32
bulldog563What is in the big 7? I assume it is the Big 5 plus hippo and something else. Croc maybe?

Use Enough GunOne bull elephant, one monster lion, and one buff. Hopefully leopard, rhino, croc and hippo in August 2006. I believe that they call that the Magnificent Seven.

MARK H. YOUNGAs far as different species go I guess I'm with Butch. Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopards, hippo, croc. I also don't really think rhino will happen for me. A black rhino would be great but I don't think the hunt even if you could afford it will ever match up to the originals when they were common over southern and east Africa.

<mikeh416Rigby>I've shot all of the Big 5 several times. However, it's been with a camera and long lenses.

P.S.
I'm moving this to the African Big Game Forum, since it is not a Hunt Report.

Now that is experience in this day in time when you have killed so many cape buffalo that you lost count.

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

I am not going to dig into the records, but believe this is correct:
15 elephant
5 lion
4 leopard
1 BLACK rhino
Lost count on buffalo, some where around 25 I suppose
For what it's worth 2 crocs, since the thread was highjacked to more than the Big 5

JPKThree cape buffalo, two bulls and a cow.
Two elephants, both tuskless cows.
Tried for lion, saw four males but not the right one. Tried for leopard, with no luck. Got to stalk a black rhino to within "pretend" shooting range and say "BANG".
Will go back to Zim in Sept for a try at least four tuskless elephants, and a leopard.

PeglegThis is GREAT!! Each one I suppose would have a story. Which big five story comes to you when you think back about dangerous hunts you've done.
