Classic Accommodations in Harare?

If the place to stay in Victoria Falls is the Victoria Falls Hotel, and in Bulawayo it's The Bulawayo Club, where does one overnight in Harare that offers similar classic, colonial-era accommodation?

The wife and I are leaving soon to hunt tuskless and plains game with Buzz Charlton, and having never been to Harare we were thinking of remaining an extra night if there was a great and storied place to stay. Any suggestions?

Kirsty with CM Safaris booked us at a bed and breakfast named Karenburni. It's not old but was a great place to overnight both coming and going from our safari. Meals were great and the service was very accomadating. Looking around Harare not sure if much(old hotels) survived.You will enjoy your hunt and good luck.

Tom In Tennessee

Have the State Dept contact Mugabe...I am sure he confisticated a Clssic and gave it to a cousin.....otherwise, stay at a B&B....my contact list got lost when Mother Board fried, but the Friends had a nice one and they will pick you up at airport, help you get thru and get you the hell outta downtown...their place was only a couple blocks from Nyschens and he dropped by periodically. Alex had a great collection of books and original "artifacts"

The Meikle's Hotel is pretty well-known as one of the more "classic" places to stay if you are interested in a 4 star experience... you can google it and check her out.

Last year CM put us at a B&B owned by Karen Harrison. I can't remember what it was called. It was cozy with a great meal in the garden. I know you were looking for a hotel experience, but if you choose a B&B, you won't go wrong here.

Meikles is probably "the most classic" -we like it; also Pangolin Lodge is very nice and a bit cheaper.

Bronte Hotel is very classic. Only stayed one night. Enjoyed drinks and a dinner there. Great garden if you are there at the right time of year( I was not)

+1 for the Harrison's. They made me a member of the family, I played with the kids, and watched the Rugby game with them. Great place, wonderful people - although it's not a classic old hotel.
