I suppose I should know this, but, is the moon phase in the southern hemisphere the same as in the north. When full moon here is it also full moon there?

Just kidding. The moon phase is the earths shadow on the moon. So this is the same, to a small degree
Might rise an set at different times, depending on where u are, so hunting/fishing times will also be different depending on where you are.

In my experience, the critters that I chase move better in daylight when the moon is dark, so I plan my hunts that way.
Others probably have different experiences but that's how I swing.
I see its dark in late July so I think I'll head to SA then.

Black FlyIf you hunt in the dark of the moon, you will miss the lovely full moon over the thorn. To me moon rise over the bush was something I had always wanted to see, like moon rise over the ocean. Glad I didn't miss it.

FjoldI hunted Buffalo in Zimbabwe during the full lunar eclipse. That was outstanding! Especially when you are so far out in the field that there was no light pollution.

That is a common fallacy. What you are describing(ie. earth casting a shadow on the moon) is a lunar eclipse.
The moon's phases has to do with the the moon's position in relation to earth and the sun.
The sun is always lighting up one full hemisphere of the moon(except during a lunar eclipse). The moon's phase is controlled by the portion of the lighted hemisphere that we can see from earth. Here is a great explanation:
Phases.This is why a full moon always rises about the same time that the sun is setting and a new moon always rises about the same time that the sun is rising.

Neil-PHSomething in the air...........had this same discussion just 2 weeks ago, sitting in a little cabin adjacent the ocean.
His argument at the time was if its full moon in the s. hemisphere it must be the opposite in n. hemisphere.
I don't have much hair anymore, and I'm beginning to understand why !!
