Bushbuckridge - An Mpumalanga man who was bitten by a crocodile on Wednesday died of his injuries in Tintswalo Hospital, Bushbuckridge, on Thursday night.
Steven Mosoma, 35, of Acornhoek was fishing with a friend along the Mica River at about 16:00 on Wednesday when he was attacked.
“A crocodile suddenly emerged from the water and grabbed his left thigh," said Acornhoek police cluster spokesperson Themba Twala on Friday.
His friend dragged him to safety and called for help.
Mosoma was rushed to hospital, but his injuries were too severe and he died on Thursday night.
Twala has cautioned villagers to be vigilant when fishing.
"Some rivers are infested with crocodiles and hippopotamuses that can be dangerous if they encounter humans,” said Twala.
“People should remember that crocodiles need (red) meat as much as they need fish to eat," he added.
