Buffalo incident in RSA

I wish Tollie a speedy recovery. This goes to show you can never let your guard down with a Buffalo; in the wilds or captive. From the Hunting Report: This month we have news of two incidents involving dangerous game. Right at press time, I learned that Tollie Jordan of Tollie's African Safaris was attacked by a Cape buffalo in South Africa on August 19. I received word of the incident from Tim Macmanus of Safaritime. The accident occurred on Jordan's buffalo breeding property in Somerset East in the Eastern Cape. The bull had escaped from the high-fenced facility and Jordan, his son Paul and a farmhand had just herded it back into the corral using a vehicle. They were closing the gate when the bull suddenly turned back and charged them. Paul and the farmhand managed to scramble over the fence in time to avoid the bull, but Jordan slipped as he climbed the fence. The bull threw him in the air three times and then pushed him into the ground and stomped him. After several attempts to distract the bull, Paul and the farmhand were finally able to drag Jordan to safety.

Jordan was immediately taken to the hospital in Somerset East and then transferred to a hospital in Port Elizabeth. He underwent surgery and seemed to be in stable condition as this issue went to press.

leopards valley safaris

I heard Tollie got rolled by a buff. Put a horn through his calf I believe.

He's about half an hour from me.
I believe he's doing much better.He has had a couple of rowdy Buff lately , this is not the first he's had to return or go an dart.

By now you all must have heard about my accident with a buffalo and where I was saved from the death by Jesus Christ. It is a miracle that I am alive.

A buffalo bull almost killed me. He was our main breeding bull. The younger bulls worked him out of the herd and he ran away. We found him in the National road and we chased him into a small camp and then into the boma and just as we closed the gate he got a freight and stormed. I was next to the gate. I ran and tried to jump onto the fencing of the boma, but the buffalo got hold of my leg and threw me over his back and pinned me to the ground.

I realized the end is near. I started to pray and told Jesus that I am ready to go if He wants to take me, or He must help me. He answered my prayers and the buffalo turned around and walked into the boma and left me there on the ground. Paul was on the roof of the boma trying to get the buffalo’s attention and it just looked at him and stood there in the boma peacefully. That gave Peter the opportunity to pick me up and take me out of the way so they could close the gate of the boma.

I had a lot of pain in my chest and face. I thought I had internal bleeding and that my liver or milt burst. My one leg and my scrotum were torn open and I fractured 3 ribs and my one lung collapsed. On my arrival at the hospital they took me immediately for surgery and they put a drain in my lung. My cheekbone was also broken and it had an influence on my vision. The second evening they took me back for surgery where they had to stitch up all my wounds. I was in ICU for 3 days before they did surgery to my face.

They had to put 2 titanium plates in my face so that my vision could be better. It is just a miracle that I didn’t hurt my organs. By this time I have recovered almost 100% already. I am also very excited to know that I got another chance in life and that God wants to use me for His work. I don’t know what He wants me to do but I am sure that I have to live each day to the full.

I want to thank you all for all your prayers ans support, it carried me through the difficult time.

It could happen to any of us that hunt the DG. We should count our lucky stars. Glad he'll be ok. Could have turned out much worse.

J, Cape or American Bison, there is NO such thing as a Tame buffalo.

Having worked with American Buffalo/Bison for almost 20 years now, including two I hand raised, I don't trust those bastards any farther than I could pick one up and throw it.

In conversations I have had with people that have worked with Capes, they are no different and possibly worse.
