Everybody should read this. Contribute if you can. Having had the privilege of hunting with CAWA twice, I can tell you they are absolutely dedicated to saving what can be saved. I pray for David's stamina and Erik's recovery from the wounds he suffered a couple of months ago.

Great story and what an uphill battle those guys are fighting.

I agree. Special place, just don't know what the realities are as to saving this place. So many things to fight, LRA, Sudanese poachers, corrupt governments and so on.

I killed this 33.5 inch Roan not a mile from the Chinko river, driving back to Kocho camp on the last day of my Safari.

Most of africa is undergoing negative changes, but what saddens me the most is the C.A.R, it is such a wild, magnificent country and its trophy potential is so great, I mean despite most of the country is unsafe to hunt and has been hammered badly it still produces some world class trophies. Hope some of it can be saved for us hunters who still dream of going to Africa.

Agree 100%. This place is so different, so special, almost spiritual. It is worthy of saving. If it were managed like most Sub-Saharan African hunting countries as far as conservation goes, its bounty would be limitless.

I was there last year. Vast country with limitless potential, but the strongest influences there are decidedly anti-wildlife. The history there is a long list of people who have come and will continue to come and take from the area. That's the bottom line.

I commend those who have attempted to manage the Chinko. Those who want to save it face a huge uphill battle and will only be successful if a strong presence of force is on the ground for a long period of time.

i was lucky to meet the guys of haut chinko including Daneil henriot in the 90s before the collapse and was always wondering if something can really be done without huge and heavy army forces.

seems a shame but always the same story.
