shootawayModern day Lion Hunting in Safari Areas-question.
Are the lions found today in once classic or the classic safari areas truly wild native lions or are they lions that were bred elsewhere and released there? It seems to me that some of the lions shot today-that I see in pictures don't look like the ones shot in the past. These modern lions seem too big and fat.

SaeedThere has been reports of farm bred animals being transported by criminal outfitters across borders for their special clients to shoot them.
Probably the same outfitters who transport other animals across borders to be killed by their clients.
Apparently planes and converted petrol tankers have been used for this purpose.
All these animals end up in the SCI Record book, and allow their recipients to belong to those silly circles SCI has.
How bloody sick!

The borders of countries neighboring RSA can be rather porous at times, especially in the dead of night.

BushPeterPretty much all lions shot in RSA aren't truly native wild. Most in Namibia shot aren't truly native wild (only those in the North are native wild). In Zimbabwe pretty much all are native wild. You could debate if the lions in Bubye are native wild but they certainly are wild born, and their parents were wild born in the same place and for most their grandparents too. However, that population is a reintroduced population. In Zambia all are native wild (although there have been some rumours about activities like mentioned above). Tanzania all are native wild. Mozambique most are native wild (certainly those in Niassa), but I know of one operator who introduced lions in his concession.
