My unique buffalo wall trophy
I am not into wall trophies, but this was very special, so I had it skull-mounted and got it back last week.
On 10 Dec last year I was fortunate to have an opportunity at a walk-and-stalk hunt on a mad buff cow. My lucky 15-yard heart shot took her down within 5 minutes and no more that 80 yards. It was only then that we discovered why she was attacked a vehicle the previous week. A bullet had passed through the animal’s head (poachers?) just above the brain. After she died from my shot, pus was running from the wound. This had nothing to do with the fact that she had only one horn. (Which had all to do with the bargain price!).
On the picture you can see the overlapping ribs of a buffalo (if ever there was doubt about this fact), with the neat hole where my arrow penetrated two ribs to go on from there through both ventricles. The Die-Hart broad head, hand-made by my knife-maker friend Oliver, was a little blunted, but not chipped or bent at all.
Grrrr…. Goose bumps all over again

The "REAL" trophy is in your memories of your hunt. What gets hung on the wall, brings them all rushing back to you, evertime you look at it. Enjoy it.

Never ever had such an attack of buck fever. Shook the arrow off the rest at full draw. Fliched it onto the target while running in the opposite direction - eisch!!
Lochi.

p.s. "eisch" is African for anticipation of major discomfort. Eeker

Lochi, I know that feeling and I have seen it happen to lots of other hunters. Very cool mount! I have a rib from my first buffalo, inscribed with the place and date.

Nice Trophy!
It's not the inches that counts but the story behind ones trophy, the hunt, stalk etc...

Carmelos 56" buff comes way behind this nice Buffalo cow animal

Most excellent!!!! I can't say it any better than husky did so I'll just quote him, "It's not the inches that counts but the story behind ones trophy, the hunt, stalk etc..." I couldn't agree more. With your story and your memories of that hunt, you've got an excellent Buff trophy. And, a great story and memories to tell to others when you show it to them. That's the best kind of trophy, IMHO. And it's a cool mount, too! Thanks for sharing your story and photo.

Sincerely,
-Bob F.

Lochi,

A gem of an idea for the mounting. Cool!

What counts for the value of a trophy? Not the inches, but the number of tick-bites suffered, and the 'places' where they are, that count.

In good hunting.
