Booking?
Looking for helpful information how far out do most people book there hunts. Also how far out will outfitters or booking agents let you book.

Mostly we're talking twelve months/next hunting season. You can take however many years you'd like getting a feel for who's good/who you like, mainly by hanging around AR, 24hourcampfire and Safari Club shows. Higher demand safaris could run over a year away in bookings. Get busy (and welcome!)

Welcome to the AR forum.
Depends on who you are booking with & just how booked up they are.
I've booked within 4 months of a safari. I'm sure some have booked even closure.
I know a PH that is already booked solid for 2014.
Good luck.

If you want the best dates for the game you want to pursue, the dates that work best for you personally and the ability to hunt limited quota game a booking 2 years out is not out of the question. On the other hand if you have a very flexible vacation schedule and a nest egg set aside for hunting you can get some good deals late season on short notice. The latter doesn't work for most people.

pretty much what mark says. the long out you book the betteer chance you will have for choice dates, and the chance to save up the $$

At the end of our hunt, we shake hands and say:

"See you same time next year"

But, as Mark has suggested, the earlier you book the better, especially if you are after certain game animals that might be in short supply.

First Africa hunt, I booked three months in advance. Dates were very limited and I had just found out about the particular Outfitter. Everything turned out great!

I knew a month or two after that I would go again with the same Outfitter and planned on taking my kids and father the next time. I booked 2 1/2 years in advance. the hunt will be June 1st-17th of 2014. Time has passed by quick!

Just purchased our plane tickets Monday.

The anticipation, excitement, and planning is enjoyable as well. I have probably talked too much about it the past 2+ years!

I booked my first PG hunt approximately 4 months prior to departure, as I was still in grad school and had won a travel scholarship to attend an international meeting in Durban.

My second trip, I booked roughly a year in advance.

My third trip, I booked about 2 years in advance.

Seems like I continually booked further in advance if you look at my track record.

I would venture to guess that most are made within 6 to 18 months. Some very good deals can be had if you have the cash and vacation to drop things within a couple months notice.

Welcome to AR!
The gentleman over here has given you sound advise. Any time from 4-18 months is usually more than enough. I would however like to reiterate what has been mentioned. The longer out in advance you book, the better the deal you will get.

Enjoy your planning!
Take Care,
Marius Goosen

No where near the norm, I booked my next trip to africa 32 months in advance.

I booked NZ 15 months in advance on the same day.

Use a known booking agent unless you really know the safari company well. A booking agent can get the money transfered properly to the outfitter and help you out when there is a discreptincy.
