Not an earth shattering question but just curious. I wonder how Craig Boddington and others with the many guns they have taken out of the country how do the keep track of all the 4457 forms? Does one catalogue by serial # or caliber or make? I am sure ther are posters here with numerous 4457 forms. Maybe they get new ones each trip. I only have three but will be getting another soon.

If you put one gun on each form, you just have to file it in your reloading room.

If you can keep track of hundreds of handloads, you can keep track of a few 4457s.

If the number of 4457's in your files is confusing, just go to customs and fill out some new ones.

I just keep my forms in my gun safe with my rifles. Then when the time comes, just pull out the ones I need.

I keep them with all of the passports and other international information in one of those zippered bank bags that you can get at your local bank for free or for a nominal cost. It is locked up with other important documents in one of my gun safes. I have picked up 4457's over the years, as needed with new guns for international hunting, and I have all of the 4457's laminated at Office Max. They're good forever. I then take only the ones that I need for the hunt that I'm going on.

Because I overnight in Joberg on my way to Zim, and the SA Police view the 4457 as our "permission to export" I always get new ones for the exact guns I am taking.
I put nongun items, for returning through US customs on other 4457's.
Do not know if it makes any difference, but the less confusioon at SAPS the better.

Doing one gun per form is not a bad idea.

However on my trip last March, the SAPS were very friendly.
