Money is a issue for me. But, I want to go Cape bufflo hunting. I would rather pay more for a Great chance at a Great buff. I am sure it is a good plan, rather than go 2 or 3 times to get one. I can pay one time for the best. but i would not be able to pay for several trips, with air fare and all.
Who would you reccomend for a great hunt and a better than average chance of comming home with a dream come true??

I don't think anyone will argue that our Lokisale and Lobo areas adjacent to Tarangire park in Masailand offer the best chance in Africa for a really big buffalo. The last 2 seasons we have averaged 43" or more. You have a real chance here with a little patience to kill a huge buffalo.

A 10 day 1x1 hunt is $21,900 allowing you I buffalo and plains game. The same hunt allowing 2 buffalo is $24,900

maddog, Mark is right those area are very good area's. The time of year would be important also, but I could not pay 22 grand for a buff hunt. Tan. has lots of cancelations now, they come out of the woodwork after July 4th. I stole my lion hunt in the same area in 05 due to a cancelation. You can do Zambia with De Plooy's outfit, leopard and Buff
for 24 grand without trophy fee. Mark books for De
Plooy also.

Sorry to hijack your thread Maddog, all the above info, is correct.

The area to the East of Tagranrigi is the best area for big Buffalo. There are a few operators there that consistantly produce huge Buffalo, Bundu and Luke Samaras being the two major ones. DuPlooy also has good Buffalo. ALl three very well represented here.

Those are good recommendations despite the fact the Jeff h agrees.

I can see this going bad quickly.

for Mark and Adam at Safari Trackers, we booked with Mark and everything's been top notch. That's not a slight against Wendell, I've never used him but have heard nothing but good things about him.

As with you money is an issue for me, but I wanted to make a quality hunt. I booked with Adam Clement Safaris to hunt the Selous in September for Buffalo. I know the buffalo in the Selous are not as big as in the Masailand, however the size of the trophy was not the only determining factor. I looked at the overall potential quality of the hunt which to me is as important as the trophy. From what I have been told he Selous is about as remote as it gets these days, and I am looking for a good, tough, fair chase hunt. I could have saved a couple of thousand dollars elsewhere or spent several thousand more for the Masailand but for me this was the right decision.

71 days to Africa

Hunting the Selous with Malagarasi was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life, and I have had much more than my share. No, I didn't get a 43" buff, but I got a good one, and the country and game are absolutely fantastic. Samaras has some good blocks there, as well as Bundu, so take your pick, or book through Wendell with Malagarasi if he still works with them, or through Steve. There are others as well.

It's great country, you'll barely or never see other hunters, there are no villages, and it's a truly wild place. I'd love to go back. If you go, so will you.

My question for you is what do you call a good buff?I would love to do one of those hunts in Tanz but for that money i could hunt nearly three times in Zim.You can get 7-10 day hunts in Zim with most outfitters for between $8400 to $9500 USD and there is often left over animals the later in the year you leave it.I took my fist Buff in the Omey area guided by Mat Stanton.It is 37" wide has 13" boss that is joined in the middle.That for me is a great Buff. To shoot one with deep curl,hard, huge boss is what i think makes a great buf not the width but that's me.Your biggest problem is going to be the fact that hunting them is truely an addiction.I have to work very hard to afford this sort of hunt but I have been busting my Ass for the last year and i am going back again this year I am hunting in the Chirisa area with mat again in HHK's area.CAN'T WAIT
