Alaska HunterLion Hunting - Mozambique
Has anyone hunted lion with Jumbo Moore in Mozambique? I'm considering a Lion, Buffalo, Sable hunt this July there.
I've taken one lion before, but this just came up and lion hunting, well there's nothing like it.
Any information would be most appreciated.

I had to work for my buff but thats not unusual for me.
Its a nice wild area up there and they have good Zim PHs like Stu Taylor and Johnny Johnson.
It is worth spending a few nights at the southern fly camp.

404WJJefferyI have heard that Jumbo Moore is the father of cat hunting- a legend. About the area, I do not know...but he is top notch.

Alaska HunterShowbart,
I read a letter from Jumbo to another guy that said "Lions don't fear man here and it is documented that the Niassa has had 37 reported cases of man eating lions in the past 6 years. Our #2 skinner (appropriately named Lionhead) was fortunate some years ago to have 2 Spanish doctors in camp when a lioness jumped into is hut and attacked him. The PH shot the lioness off him and the doctors managed to save him but not before they removed 1/3 of his cranium. Today, there is just skin between the outside world and his beating brain."
He went on to write, "We are hunting the last true remaining pristine wilderness area in Africa. Here you will be hunting some places where no man (white or native) have ever walked before!!! You will come across animals which have never seen humans before. We shoot all our cats in broad daylight and often have 3-4 leopards feeding off the same bait with lions doing the same thing."
Whow doesn't that sound good. I've hunted Alaska for 25 years and sometimes walked for days into the mountains and thought, I bet I'm the only one thats ever been here before. Then I look down and see a candy wrapper.
Where ever man can walk, man has walked.

Alaska Hunterozhunter,
Great pictures, thanks so much for sharing them. Jumbo said he had terrific eland. Judging by your picture I'd say you got one. How large was he? A few years ago I took a trophy eland I never thought I'd beat, 39" worn down, a great old blue bull. Jumbo claims that size is common there.
Your buffalo looks large, well fed and wide. A hard hunted buffalo is a true prize.
Congradulations and again thanks for the pictures.

ozhunterI Enjoy a few nights out camping with only bed roles during my hunts, but not here as I didn't feel comfortable with all the Lions in this area.
I did meet "Lionhead" in camp.
The rifle is an old Husqvarna 9.3x62 with a Steel 4x S&B with Recknagel mounts.
I'm not sure how big the Eland went but you can measure it for me if you get there.
