Rifle Case Question
Has anybody used or seen the Flambeau Double Coverage Single Gun Case 16277TL?

I usually associate Flambeau with "cheap and cheerful" or ecconomy rifle cases ie not something I would trust to withstand airline use.

However this case is one of their upper end cases and is double skinned, airline approved and comes with a life time warrenty.

This link shows them about half way down the page: http://www.hofmantopsport.nl/flamgewpistkof.htm

The attraction is a realtively light aand compact (12lb) single rifle case for airline use.

I already have a Storm two rifle case, but I am looking but it weighs about 20lb on its own, and when rtravelling with a single rifle, I want something smaller/lighter.

Obviously my concern here is the build quality of the Flambeau case ie whether its likely to be strong enough..

Please, please don't bother recommending Tuffpacs or any other rifle cases; I am really just interested in opinions of and experience with this product.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Peter

I have used such a case for shotguns, but MY OPINION is that it is a bit too light for commercial air travel with a scoped rifle.

That said, I know someone who uses such a case for carrying a scoped rifle on commercial airliners. So far, it has worked fine.

Call me old fashioned, but I like aluminum -- big and heavy. The baggage monkeys can't throw it as far. I guess I'll just have to pay the overweight/oversize charges until they no longer accept those pieces at all. Then I'll look at something lighter.

Dear Pete

I place my rifle is a soft rifle case.

Then into a custom made 3mm thick alloy box same shape as rifle. The end of the box slides off to pull the rifle out.

Then the alloy box into a soft guitar case with back pack type straps.

It is funny how some things get treated????
Makes it easier to carry around on my back and in town.

Any way this is my tip.

the problem with the lighter plastic cases is that they flex. I would stick with the storm, peli or the new range of SKB (Roto Mil Standard) cases. I looked at the Americase aluminium ones and they are a comparable weight.
Baggage weight is just something you'll have to live with when it comes to airlines, I'm afraid.

Pete,

Other than the above comments it would seem you might need multiple locks as it has four seperate latches.

Personally I have to agree with Lavaca. I love my big heavy ICC case. After many trips it looks terrible but functions as well as it did 18 years ago.
