Factory Ammo. Boxes
I see on some of the post; if you are taking reloads to Africa; to avoid conflict, carry your reloads in Factory ammo boxes.
Can you purchase these empty boxes somewhere?

Thanks for any information on this.

pick them up at the range or just buy some factory ammo. On my two trips I used MTM ammo boxes and had no drama at all. Last time I packed two 50 round boxes in a small, lockable pelican case and it worked like a champ

When I went to SA in JUne neitehr the folks on the SA end not coming back into the US even bothered to check my ammo.

However just in case my factory stuff was in its boxes and the 8x68S reloads were in MTM slip top cases.

your only concern will be that the head stamp matches the barrel marking. Maybe not even that, last April in RSA customs could have cared less. I had double rifles in 9,3x74R and 470 NE.

There is no requirement that ammo be in factory boxes, nor is handloaded ammo restricted. I put my ammo in MTM 20 round boxes, and apply a lable that indicates it was loaded by XXXXXXXX Custom Ammo Co. (Gues who XXXXXXXXX is.) Ten African safaris and some other international hunts, and no problems. You can print the requirements from the TSA website.

Mauser,

If you can acquire the appropriate factory boxes I would use them even if it is overkill. I have always used them. As far as rules are concerned any ammo specific box is legal.

Mike! I've been doing the very same thing. The vacuum pack certainly looks professional to all the customs people.

Mike - Just curious as to the type of vac pack you are using? The same kind you use for meat, snacks and such? I have used the plastic wrap, just didn't vac'em.
