But there's no faulting his taste (in this case).

CrazyhorseconsultingAdrook, you don't get it at all.
There is not one single person worthy of me kissing their ass.
Maybe that is your damn problem.
You are not comfortable in your own skin, so you want to get into hero worship, that is pure Kid Stuff Bull Shit.
All those folks you mentioned, and everyone else in the business of writing hunting articles or guiding hunters are just HUMAN beings.
There is not one damn thing more special about them, than anyone else.
They chose the business they are in and they have had the ability to make good at it.
There is not one single one of us, that put in the same circumstance and given the same opportunities that could not do or have done the same damn thing, and that includes your stinking ass.
Maybe ir is just me, but the only person that impresses me, is a bastard catching more fish than me, and once I figure out what that person is doing, and I start catching fish, the impression is over.
The damn word is GUIDE, NOT GOD, same with a writer.
I have never been to Africa and never will get to go, but I am confident enough in my own abilities of my experience in killing stuff for 40 years, that if the Guide/PH I am hunting with puts me on the game I am after, I will kill it, and I will Thank him/her for guiding me to the shot, But I Ain't KISSING ANYONE'S ASS IN THE PROCESS.
I have read the storirs about the way some of the PH's behave, and if I hired a S.O.B. and he pulled some of the stuints that are read and talked about, him and his employer would get one damn quick lesson in Texas attitude that I am the Son Of A Bitch paying for the hunt and that persons job is to put me on the game I want to kill with out any egotistical BS from anyone.
The client is the person paying for the hunt, not the PH or the Outfitter.
It is the attitude of folks like you that put PH's and Guides up on pedestals, and forget that person is working FOR YOU on the hunt, not themselves.
Adrook, you may ne highly thought of in your social circle, but you are the one that seems to want to elevate PH's/Guides and writers to a status they do not deserve, and for the better one's do not ask for.
And that IS my Damn opinion.
Even the rocks don't last forever.

jetdrvrI've learned, after a lifetime spent in my profession, that those who are among the best are usually rather self deprecating and unassuming. I've found that someone who has to remind others that he is among the best in anything can usually be found wanting.
The "Me" generation doesn't seem to agree with that philosophy, but, on the whole, I've found it to be true across professional lines.
Roy Black, for example, has no need to remind anyone that he is a kick-ass criminal attorney. (Of course, I leave out fighter pilots in my summation for obvious reasons.)

I'm pretty sure that the poll is tongue-in-cheek and that Adrook agrees with you on the posterior osculation.
01 May 2009, 08:45
CrazyhorseconsultingI am not sure on that Charles.
From what I have seen over the years, many people seem to be more than willing to kiss a Guides/Outfitters/Ph's ass, simply because those folks are good at what they do, and many folks let that person's reputation intimidate them.
Maybe I am all wrong on this, but after listening to Brian Herne's book about White Hunter's, many folks seem to be so much in awe of these folks, that they allow behaviors that under normal circumstances they would not allow.
This to me seems to be Adrooks attitude toward Mark Sullivan, an unrealistic attitude because of the person's chosen profession.
I am not trying to say that PH's/White Hunter's/Guides/Outfitters, do not command some respect for their abilities, it is when they begin demanding that respect and paying clients are all too willing to suck up to those egos. JMO.

As long as I have the dollars I am willing to bet there will be more than enough folks willing to sell safaris. I seriously doubt that the fact that I think CB is a douchebag will keep me from hunting.
Andy, you are entitled to your opinion even when it is obvious to everyone that you are out of line. I will say that no matter what your opinion is you do not have the right to resort to name calling. I do not support anyone else doing it either. I am not into hero worship and have never understood it no matter who it is. I dont care about celebrities as such. I do know however who I like and dont. Regardless of what you think about Craig Bodington he has always showed me nothing but class and consideration. He has given me advice on a particular hunting area or shared his knowledge and or opinion when I have asked for it. Brittany is a sweetheart who is a pleasure to be around. She is also one of the most level headed young ladies I have met. She has several safaris under her belt and knows her stuff. You might be surprised to learn that not all of us worship at the alter of the almighty dollar. There are several I will not do business with or have asked to leave. I appreciate their business but will not put up with their shit. Quite frankly you have gone out of your way to be abusive and rude. I wouldnt do business with you at this point for any amount of money. You are luckey our host here is more tolerant than me. It is one thing to make a mistake or say something stupid in anger or trying to be funny. Almost everyone does that including me. It is another to fess up and apologize to the appropriate parties when that happens.

Since you have taken me to task, here goes. I am a member in good standing with seven conservation groups including Dallas Safari Club ( life member ) and SCI. I have raised a pretty fair sum for conservation during my two terms as president of my local SCI chapter as well as assisting as a board member for seven years. In just the last four years, my company has donated -two bull elephant hunts in Zimbabwe, four buffalo bull safaris, five rifles ( one a Rigby double ) and partnered in a 21 day Tanzania lion elephant, buff, leopard package . These are all 100% donations my friend, and while I do not feel compelled to inform you with figures raised for conservation, it is a pretty large sum. I do not take credit for it all as partners shared the burden, including Craig Boddington, but I think I "pick up my part of the conservation tab. " You? I have never posted any pic other than a croc on AR, have never thumped my chest over the considerable time I spend in Africa or game taken, and I don't care for the accusation. Throw in our TV show's weekly CONSERVATION segments 52x 4 years ( 208 total )
and I would say we fight your greenies pretty damn hard. I never mind opinion based on fact, but I'v got to much Texan in me to be called out not to respond .

David HulmeTimot,
I concur with one comment of yours from your last post - I also don't know how this came up. As so many other guys have suggested on this thread and others, why are some amongst us attacking the guys that do good for hunting? Why are we attacking the Dave Fulson's and Craig Boddington's?? WHY? Can anyone answer that without resorting to rude remarks? Hello, these guys are on our side....We should be gunning the underhand and unethical, not the true hunters who stand up for us and our tradition. We should be presenting a united front but we are not. No wonder we lose ground constantly.

+1

There's a lot of film companies etc out there that do try to hustle free hunts from safari companies but I can tell you now that Craig Boddington and Dave Fulson DO NOT FALL INTO THAT CATAGORY.
Both are stand up guys and like Dave, I simply fail to understand why so many people seem to have a negative attitude to them.......... unless of course, it's a bit of jealousy creeping in somewhere.

I think there is the misconception among many that writers and TV personalities do what they do to see their name in lights and to feed some egotistical need when the fact of the matter is, most guys do it to feed their families. It's a job that happens to put them in the public light.....nothing more.

Dave FulsonHey guys
Thanks to all ! It does get a bit old to constantly be sniped at when we are working so hard to earn our living doing what we love ,
in an ethical manner, and all the while promoting the point of "go hunt Africa" . You may have other shows you prefer, fine, but man why are we sometimes, especially Craig, bit at with the venom of a mamba? It is really great to have some'brothers in arms" that take your back when it happens. Craig and I just got off the phone and the subject came up. Heres some naked truth guys, it should not bother you if it's unfounded, but the truth is , sometimes it does. We are trying our level best to just make an honest living and to represent our sport as best we can. This post is not to change the minds of the detractors- it is to say a sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to our friends and fellow hunters for your support
With much respect
Dave

The only thing we get is a few ESPN whitetail programmes and bugger all else!

Use Enough GunDave: You and Craig have my full support as a hunter. I don't get to see your t.v. shows, as Versus does not carry them, and I have not (as of yet) hunted with your company, so I don't have any bias one way or the other. But aside from all of that, you are both gentlemen and try to do the right thing for hunting, and especially for hunting Africa. Finally, congratulations to Craig on that fine Desert BigHorn killed up in my neck of the woods. Thanks again.

BrettAKSCIDave & Craig,
I for one can't wait until the safari season gets into full swing so we can talk about some hunting reports and more discounted last minute hunts. I think the winter has taken its tole. This is getting old.
As stated earlier Dave and Craig I love your stuff. Keep it up and don't worry about those of us who are jealous. Actually we're all jealous it's just most of us keep our jealously to a positive "man I wish I was him" level rather than throwing stones to make ourselves feel better. From the responses on the various threads the overwelhming majority of people on AR are with you and love what you do so take heart.

jetdrvrJealousy and greed are among the most destructive of human emotions.
I appreciate Fulson's and Boddington's programs and try not to miss the weekly show.
I have learned a lot from Craig's and other's programs that are aired here in the states.
Boddington certainly isn't claiming to be Hemingway. One thing's certain: he's put dozens more animals in the salt than old Ernest ever did. He does a very good job of presenting viable information that some of us who only have a couple of African hunts under our belts can use.
I try to avoid envying anyone more fortunate than I, because there are so many millions less fortunate than me out there who would envy me, given the chance, and I have little but a few nice weapons and a lifetime of wonderful experiences.
It's the experiences that count. I'm afraid that may be a bit old fashioned, what with the "me" generation measuring people's worth by the size of their bank accounts or how many movies they've made. But I could care less.
Good luck to Craig and Dave in their endeavors, and good luck to Brittany and all involved in her situation in Namibia.

With all apologies to Craig I 100% agree. I've always had great admiration for Craig as a hunter and a writer though I do not find his writing overly entertaining. I've always found it to be technically correct and informative. His writing reads much like an after action report with little icing on top. It is concise and to the point and usually packed full of good information.
I see much jealousy in the venom written on this sight. And this type of pedantic verbal fraging is always pointed at the largest targets. Unfortunately for Craig it doesn't get much bigger in this business than the name Boddington.
As far as Dave Fulson goes I've always said that he does great video work. And that's all I've got to say about that.

In Australia we call it the tall poppy syndrome Dave. Australians tend to knock down their "Tall Poppys" ie people who have made it big in something. Some people here (ADrook and the like)are jelous of the success that you and Graig have built for yourselves. Personally I "think good on ya"

I've never seen one of your productions but your doing something you love and getting paid for it. Can't get much better than that.

I just checked, so far this thread has 3490 views..and one, possibly two people have issues.
I wonder what would happen if no one responded to them? Really- if those 3490 views represent 500 individuals, you are winning with 99% plus.
This stuff should not take up a second of your and Craig's telephone conversation, or energy.
Just my opinion.

craig boddingtonGuys, I genuinely don't like to respond to this sort of stuff. But I shouldn't let my friend and partner Dave Fulson do all the heavy lifting! I appreciate very, very much the support the majority have shown. Excepting a bit of time off with the Marines, I've been in this business all my life, as has Brother Dave, now much more than 50 years between us. I'm not altogether sure we're in a business we chose, or if it chose us...but we love what we do. We don't make a great deal of money--and what we do make goes down a gun barrel one way or the other. But we make a living, and now that writing has been augmented by TV, it's a whole lot better than it used to be! I wouldn't trade with anyone--but it isn't always quite as easy as it seems. We catch ourselves coming and going, we're away from home for extended periods (sort of like overseas deployments). But I certainly don't want to do anything else--and, heck, I probably don't have the skills to do much of anything else! I really don't object to guys like Adrook and Timot who don't like my stuff. I'm sure glad some folks do, but it's inevitable that not everybody does. I really don't want anyone to kiss my posterior, and I'd actually prefer not to be in this kind of limelight (or whatever it is). But I do what I do, and there's both good and bad that comes with it. What I do object to is cheap shots, namecalling, and lies. I will not claim that I have paid retail for all of my hunts--but, once again, I can say that I do not solicit free hunts. Some guys in our business do, but Dave and I and our other partner, Tim Danklef, do not--and I do not personally. I also object most strenuously to the suggestion that we do not "give back" to the sport, or contribute to conservation. I do not have a great deal of money to contribute anywhere, but I have written some fairly large checks (by my standards), including to John Jackson--and, like Dave, I have contributed heavily of my time. I have just finished a five-year stint as president of Weatherby Foundation International. I am a Life Member of Dallas Safari Club and SCI, and have served both organizations in a variety of ways and capacities. Like Dave, I belong to and participate in numerous other organizations, including Boone and Crockett Club, FNAWS, Grand Slam/Ovis, and the list goes on. I enjoy this forum and I learn much from it. I read much more often than I post--but it would sure be nice if we didn't have to go over this same ground every year or so. But, as was said, there are just a few with serious problems--and for the majority, thanks a million, and good hunting to all. Regards, Craig

LionHunterHi Craig,
Apparently Saeed has seen fit to ban adrook, so that is a dead issue for all of us. Nobody likes to hear negative things said about themselves, particularly when they are simply wrong, but you know what the Corps always said about that 10% that can't get things right.

If Adrook has been banned, well, nothing. Nothing worth contributing, no opinion worth the read, nothing but a small, predjudiced loser always stirring the pot. Nothing worth even consideration one way or the other, nothing.

And thanks for just being Craig Boddington, you would be missed if you hadn't ended up the man and the hunter/writer/person/marine/American you are. And missed by most/all who pretend otherwise.
