Has anyone taken and used the Bog Pod tripod rest from Boggear for hunting in Africa? I just ordered the new camo version with black grips and like the fact that it collapes into a size to take along in a Tuff Pak as well as the fact you would be shooting from the same rest system that you were practicing on prior to the trip. Any tips, thoughts and experience would be much appreciated. Mine sould arrive next week so further evlauation and actually shooting from it will give better insight to it's value.

yes, I took two one for me and one for my son this year to Namibia. They work great.

Larry, I didn't take one, but my ph had one on my plains game hunt in the limpopo, last July. I was very impressed with it. If I was to ever get a set of shooting sticks, that would be the only one I would consider. Oh yeah, it was a tripod.

i used one for a season ...i liked it but had two issues , the V at the top was wobbly and so needed to be used more like an L ...also the aluminum legs were load at times in dry sticks or even rocks .

the homemade bush sticks were all i used before the , this season i tried long grass sticks , albeit with not much enthusiasm ..they have proved durable , light , and easy to use ...by durable , i dont ,mean indestructible , just well made and functional.

Ivan - Thanks for the input. They have changed the V to a U shaped configuration because of just what you mentioned. I'll post back on how this change helps or not. As far as the weight is concerend, I'll let my PH be the judge since he or one of the trackers will be carrying them and not me. That's the way it's supposed to work isn't it??

Similar shooting sticks, either bipods or tripods, are extremely popular over with deer stalkers. Over the years I've used various types, both homemade and bought..

One thing I would caution you is that if the leg sections get wet, dry them before stowing them away or eventually the anodized finish starts to "corrode off"...You'll know when it starts to happen as there will be a white powder on the sticks when you extended them...

From the website, that particular set looks very well designed and made...I particularly like the idea that you can buy a ball-head to enable you to mount a spotting scope or camera on it....

I'll be very interested to hear your opinion once you've actually handled it..

Thanks for the tip on the corrosion factor. I have the ball head coming as well as I do use a spotting scope and digital SLR camera in my activities and will take it to Africa. Will update ASAP.

How do these compare with the Stoney Points? Has anyone used both?

Used them on a few hunts this year, light and user friendly.

Hello all - Received my "new" camo version of the Bog Pod and camera/spotting scope mount today. Wow, the quality seems unmatched in comparison with the others out there. There has been some real forthought put into the making of this product. Ease of changing the unit from shooting sticks to camera/spotting scope platform is unreal.

The unfourtunate thing is it is 20 degrees, 6 inches of snow here at home in the New Mexico mountains so will be awhile before I can get out and actually shoot off of them. I have however been dry firing some in my trophy room and have rekilled everything a couple of times over. I can tell you one thing, their advertising is spot on, with my initial assesment being much better than I thought. More later.

I have used the normal African shooting sticks supplied by PHs and have hunted extensively with the StoneyPoint Bi and Tri-pod shooting sticks, as well as my own homemade ones I just purchased the Bog-Pod Bi-Pod Shooting Sticks last night at Sportsmans Warehouse and will give them a go in Mexico in January on my desert mule deer hunt. And, the price was right!
