Mike CapricornMy wife's parents; Carl & Gail Strauss live in Tanzania and were very good friends of Rick. They sent her an email about 2 months ago saying that Rick had died and that his son was not coping too well with it. If you'd like any further info, please contact us for their details.

Ted GorslineDear Mike Capricorn,
Rick worked for me for a few years taking out German clients and he used to tell John Wayne stories around the campfire as Wayne made his movie "Hatari" at the Trappe family Ranch at Momella.
I think Rick got both the SCI number one East African greater kudu and maybe number 1 Abbot's duiker. Not sure about the latter. I know he and his brother shot a charging lion off the hood of their vehicle in Kilombero. He was also the best dart player I ever saw.
I remember years ago he shot that big elephant in northern Tanzania that came across the border from a park in Kenya. It caused a stink but it was all legal and I remember him laughing about it as he told me he more or less told the "concerned" interviewer from "Sixty Minutes" to shove it up his kilt when asked about it. It was elephant researcher Cynthia Moss's adopted pet.
He likely holds the record for being attacked by the smallest croc ever to attack a man. He was crossing an small stream in Kilombero one day and a tiny little croc about 18 inches long grabbed him by the ankle and he walked ashore with it still hanging on his ankle.
He lived a hard life and I am sure I know why he died but I just wanted to know if it was true.

Walter was attacked by one of our pet crocs when it was about that size too!
We named the croc WALTER.
He is about 12 feet now and never stops smiling at you
