I`m going to Zimbabwe and Gary Hopkins for a buffalohunt at Sondelani Lodge.
Do you guys know this place and Gary Hopkins?

I have been to Sondelani twice and hunted Zim three times. Sondelani is one of my favorite places. I didnt hunt buff there but over next to Hwange. Last time I was there in 2009, I saw a bunch of buffalo and one monster. Are you hunting with ZimAfrica? I don't know Gary Hopkins but hunted with Ben Coulson the first time and Wayne Jardine the second. I have been thinking lately about going back.

I have been couple of times but it has been a long time. The lodge was fantastic but that was a long time ago. When I was last there, the buff were all in a high fence area.

I do not know Gary Hopkins. I know of him.

My first trip to Africa was there in 1988.

Gary is a good guy.

I hunted with Gary way back in 1994 at the Matetsi when he was working for Roger Whittal. He was 24 at the time .. a very nice young man but certainly still learning the ropes ..

Gary is a good guy and one of my favorites to do business with. Sondelani has a herd of about 300 buffalo and I think you'll have a great experience.

I have 2 choice of rifle to use: use my new old rifle a Mauser Oberndorf in caliber 404 Jeffery with a shortened neck to 68mm and a 350 grs Peregrine Bushmaster ot 400 grs Woodleigh RN
or My Ruger safari magnum in 375 H&H Mag loaded with 300 grs Peregrine Bushmaster.

I hunted with Gary in Chowore South back in 2002. He's a good experienced Ph. He'll go as far and as long as it takes to get you your critter. I'd hunt with him again for sure.
I hope you post your experience. I'd love to read about it.

Please post a report of your thoughts on the performance of the Peregrine bullets. I have been using them & really like their performance to date. Would like to hear of others experience with them.

I hunted with Gary a couple of years ago (in a different area), and had a great hunt. Gary is top-notch and a very nice guy. I thought his camp and the hunt were well organized and well run.

I was at Sondelani in 2000 and hunted with Gary. They had just brought in approx 30 head when I arrived. The lodge was exceptional, and Gary was great to hunt with. Gary and Sean Steyn were fast friends and started hunting together(Sean is Basil Steyn's son, the owner of Sondelani) Sean was killed in a motorcycle accident, and there have been other professionals that were hunting there.
Glad to hear it's come full circle and Gary is back hunting there.

Hunted succesfully 2 leopards with Gary a few years ago, you Will have a great time..Will be in those areas Monday.
