namibia cull hunts
has anyone ever done a cull hunt in namibia.i see some safari outfitters advertising them.if you did who did you go with.
Another AR member and I did a cull hunt in Southern Namibia (Kalahari) last year. We hunted Springbok, Gemsbok and Steenbok. We booked through Todd Rathner, who also posts here -
http://www.tjsafari.com/index.cfm. As far as organization is concerned both Todd and the guys in Namibia did an outstanding job. They were really responsive and (email) communication was lively both before and after the trip.
As far as the hunt itself is concerned, it is a cherished memory. I just adored the Kalahari hunting experience. Wide open landscape, a sea of red dunes which offers endless opportunity to spot and stalk game. Shooting distances were more akin to what is normally encountered in the American West than in Africa.
Amazingly (in spite of it being a "management" hunt), we actually took very good trophies. In particular my partner scored big on both Gemsbok (bull) and Steenbok. Springbok was plentiful, but not absolute top quality - which we did not expect either.
Accomodation, food and service was outstanding. All in all it was a great trip, and if I had the funds, I'd go back tomorrow.
