retreeverThis book makes me smile
I had the pleasure of flying back from Africa with Rege Podraza the author of "Where Elephants Go to Die" Below is a sample of the works and they are so true.
A Leopard's Good-ByeI've seen that look once before
On a leopard at the bait
His lips were curled in a sneer
And his eyes were filled with hate
He knew that the game was up
And maybe he would die
But he'd go out in style
With a leopard's good-bye
200 pounds of spotted hell
Leaped into the hide
Clawing air with razor blades
And a mouth snapping wide
To each of us he gave a gift
A reminder of that night
Scars clawed in our skin
And punctures from a bite
He wasn't there very long
Maybe a second or two
Just long enough to dice us up
And have a little chew
We covered up as best we could
And raked him with a shot
But when it was all said and done
He gave more than he got
I never saw that cat again
Only in my dreams
He leaps into my mind each night
And then I hear the screams

georgeldNever been around a leopard but, I was present with a trapped bobcat I'd caught when a fellow that wanted it. Pulled it from the boxtrap with his choker pole.
Flying razors blades and 6-8' dia ball of 'em is the way I saw it. Buddy got hooked too. Lotta blood coming out of his hand but, no way he could turn it loose until he had it in the big cage. Nearly lost his thumb that day.
