African Safari Hunt For Sale
Someone here might be interested in the following. It's a plains game hunt in RSA for two hunters and two non-hunters that had been purchased already but can't be used. -TONY

Anyone considering purchasing a hunt with Out of Africa Adventurous Safaris should check old threads in this forum, and in the Hunting Reports - Africa forum.

George,

Please clue me in on a bit of the problems with Out of Africa Adventurous Safaris, or point me to some specific thread somewhere.

By the way, a disclaimer: I have NOTHING to do with this. The seller simply posted a message there, claiming his grandfather had bought the hunt for himself and the grandson. So, it's buyer beware; ask lots of questions. -TONY

Thanks, George.

I recall that thread now, so I didn't reread all of it. If I remember correctly, it involved Zimbabwe and became sort of a pissin' match, with seemingly very politically motivated underpinnings.

Anyway, to clarify, the hunt the guy is attempting to sell is in the Northern Transvaal of RSA and not Zimbabwe -- if it makes a difference. -TONY

This has the look of a "donated" hunt. ( Including the minor animals 2 Impalas, 2 Warthog, 2 Duikeres ) I would stay away from this hunt.
With a few exceptions, Most of the time it's better to pay full price to hunt with a honest outfitter.

Might be. I have no idea but it would be easy enough to ask the guy if that was the case, which I will do. And if you read the thread, I also commented about the included critter value. -TONY

That is OOA standard SCI hunt donation.

Ann,

That's probably the case, and I posted the guy a question to that effect. BUT...the original purchaser is the one selling it now and also realizes he might have to take a loss. Obviously, I have no idea what he paid for it, though he puts an $11,000 value on it.

BUT...since it already includes the daily fees for 2 hunters and 2 non-hunters, plus the critters listed, it might not be such a bad deal at the RIGHT price, thus allowing the addition of more glamorous animals at the standard trophy fees. -TONY

Myself and three friend hunted with Out of Africa in 2000. It was a hunt we bought at a SCI dinner for plains game similar to this one (our was in RSA too). We specifically asked if we could use our credit cards prior to leaving and we were told yes. Well when it was time to pay we had to go to the local bank and get cash advances on them. That's just the beginning of the problems we had. I wont go into the whole story here but basically because they donated the hunt they take the attitude that you dont deserve the same treatment as if you booked it directly.

Interesting about the CC, and it kind of made me chuckle a bit because of an experience I had with John X Safaris. BUT...it was just opposite yours.

Their contract and the booking agent clearly stated that using a CC will incur a 5% surcharge, but when I went to pay my bill, they charged me only the amount I owed with no surcharge tacked on. Perhaps it was because I added on about $5,000 in trophy fees to the original $5,000 for the package. And, they didn't charge me -- intentionally -- for a 2nd springbok ram that I wanted for the flat hide.

So unlike yours, mine was a very positive experience with a CC.

I would be interested in hearing about the other problems, too. If you'd like, send me a PM here.

By the way, did you let SCI know about the treatment you received? -TONY
