Headlight & flashlight choice for 3rd world hunt
I'm doing a Cameroun hunt in march and looking for hi quality headlight & flashlight. Must be LED and take normal batteries (no CR123's). I have several lights, but not enough. No resupply and no corner Cabelas or local sporting goods store to bail us out. I prefer AA or AAA batteries as they are everywhere and usually inexpensive.

You can borrow money, but you can't borrow time. Don't wait, go now.

I love my Petzl Zipka 2 LED Headlamp - always have 2 or 3 on trips. They take AAA batteries, and make great gifts at the end of the trips

I have a couple of Coast flashlights. They are inexpensive, very bright, and take regular batteries (mine hold three AA). I got mine at Lowes.

My current flashlight battery, as it were, is a Petzl headlamp and a Fenix TK-41 flashlight.

Ditched the CR123s and have switched over to Eneloop rechargable AA and AAAs. they seem to hold a charge forever and if necessary you can always use the regular AA and AAAs.

Cabela's Alaskan outfitter headlamp. It's a bit heavy but indestructable. Has LED and regular bulbs. Mine has seen 5 safari's; 3 sheep hunts and 10 duck seasons, just to name a few and never an issue. Great in wet weather. Takes 3 AA batteries and life is good, especially if you don't always use the LED light. When you are looking for a leopard that has run into the brush in the dead of night, it's the way to go.

Don't know if they're as good as some of those you folks mention. But got my PH friend in Africa, a set of 3 headlamps, 10 Led, use 3 AAA batteries. Got them at Costco and cost 3 for $10.00. Had gotten him one with a bit less light, I think, for about $4 or $5 at Harbor Freight, and he used it to carry half a black wildebeeste off a mountain, in the dark.

Here's what I use. Works great with lots of different options re: brightness and colors. Uses two AA and the batteries last a long time.

Agree with the prior suggestion of the Streamlight brand's SIDEWINDER.
It takes simple AA batteries. But it is a very intelligent and efficient system.
The clip to hold the lantern to one's cloths is very helpful for the job of dressing game after dark.
Mine are purchased from the on line company of Brightguy.com Good prices.
